These are lovely beasts, we have several of these with Ruby Red, South Devon and Aberdeen Angus grazing on Dartmoor these days with the ponies and they are a splendid sight.

They are all calm cattle unlike the continental breeds so safe enough unless they have a calf with them.

Not about highland cattle, but this reminds me of an incident my mother and father had whilst travelling on a by-road in the Yorkshire dales in their 4/4 (without side screens). They were stopped by a farmer who proceeded to open a gate in front of them and usher a herd of cows passed them on either side to an open gate behind them.

The inevitable happened and one of the cows decided to relieve itself alongside the car, splattering the road and the running board adjacent the passenger side where my mother was sitting. As the farmer passed he leant towards my mother and said in broad dialect 'She didn't think owt to thee' and continued on his way.

Have been wary about cows on the road whilst in an open car ever since!

Reminds me of another story. A couple on holiday are walking in open fields of North Yorkshire when they come upon a stream, and bend down to have a drink. A local farmer suddenly pops up from behind a hedge and in quick fire broad Yorkshire announces, "thee dunt want to be drinkin that watter, its full of oss piss an cow shite". Sorry says the lady we're from the south could you say that again slowly. Aye says the farmer "just cup your 'ands together" rofl

There was a pair on some property near our house in Oklahoma. Cannot imagine they enjoyed the Oklahoma summers.

I dare say they could find some shade under the corn (which I understand is as high as an elephant's eye in Oklahoma).

LOL.... all the places mentioned in the play/movie were right near where we lived.... there really is a place called "Bushyhead". However, that part of Oklahoma is NOT corn growing country, it is cattle grazing country.

. A few years ago , stopped on a country lane to let a milking herd pass. One decided he liked the colour of my BRG 4/4 so took to licking the front wing. When l got home it took me three times with t cut to get the siliva off.... try to keep well away from them.
