Hey guys,

3800ish km and the timing belt is about the give in. Thanks to you guys and other owners I did my homework and pre-emptively ordered a timing belt so that should go nicely. Aside from that its been running smoothly. (remember there's no dealer here)
Is there any other part I should get ? Because the book mentions a repair kit (tensioner belt, pulley rear idler, oil seal pinion, oil seal cam cover, repair kit, cam belt, pulley front idler, screw crome front cover). This all sounds overkill and I didn't read anything about that in previous posts.

On the community front i've gathered around 10 owners and we should be having our first meet in mid-October (there's no winter here).

I'm considering getting a cover for the air filter and paint it like a french aircraft roundel from ww2. What do you think?

Best,

E.

Instructions on what you require and how to replace the cam belt are freely available on the MTWC website: https://www.mtwc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/M3W-Cam-Belt-Change-modified.pdf. There does seem to be a bad batch of cam belts about that have surface cracking. Is there any other part you should get? The fuel pump should be replaced with a Walbro item : https://www.mtwc.co.uk/wp-content/u...-pump-replacement-April-2020-update.pdf. You don't want to break down in the middle of the desert!

My cambelt was replaced at 5K miles with lots of deterioation despite the spacer kit. I wonder if more active cooling is required? Especially in the desert! Mine had only done <2K in high temperature climate...

I am guessing this will be one of those "I will look at it this winter" items
