I wondered why my car smells like an old minge.

Left the car out with a shower cap over the hood as I know the hood leaks but didn’t think that water would flood in from somewhere else.

Not sure this is the whole problem as it’s about 10mm deep throughout the inside floor area. But there’s water trailing out of the heater vents.

Is there a heater plenum drain blocked perhaps?

Viper. It's a totally crap design on such a great car,I t hink the sponge on top of the heater box absorbs the water straight through the vent and once saturated the drip is like leaving a tap on .Your vent may also be blocked, hope this helps.

At a very wet Spa Francorchamp, during 2003 running the GT car, Neil Cunningham, the driver came over the radio quoting in his broadest Aussie accent, that the bow wave in the footwell was big enough to surf on!

A quick pit stop and some swiftly drilled drainage holes soon sorted that!

It’s strange because I’ve not had this kind of leak in any of my other S1’s

Is there a blocked drain?

There’s a course kind of filter sat on top of the intake which would stop anything

Might be worth checking if it is coming in elsewhere on the bulkhead, or is there is a faulty seal on the heater box.
In my service history there are reports of a leak from the bulkhead, and I believe they sealed up the joints behind the dashboard which rectified it.

It could be that the water is getting in via another route and then finding the heater?

Some drops down in the middle of the car.

In my MOG it was the fitting of the bonnet. Where „the middle of the bonnets“ is fitted toothed body.

Like Em. , I would check the sponge on top of the heater/air intake and then make sure there is no rubbish collected in the depths.

I'm not sure if there is also a drain valve/pipe down there - but if someone can confirm there is , it is probably blocked.

Not a fix but, I use one of the long shower capes that cover this vent as well as the hood - belt and braces.
