That is a nice fix Obie, always thinking it is a fix? It looks like it should work. I have been replacing pop rivets for ages but they are getting bigger and bigger, so this may be another winter job to add to the list. It's not something I had thought was a problem and the rivet sizes are growing, so a proper fix was overdue. Thanks for sharing, it saves more thought to solve the same problem.
Well it is an easy fix and the brackets feel much more secure so hopefully will work. I guess the best solution is steel plates welded to the chassis tubes that the brackets bolt to sandwiching the skin. Only practical during manufacture of the chassis really and would add extra weight.
Judging by the sag I suspect these might benefit from 2 mounting bolts through the floor. Did you have reinforcing plates on the inside panels? I wonder if an extension to the G56 mounts to use the 4th / later mount hole for the default exhausts would help, but not likely to be as reinforcing as your solution! Well done!
Its not sag it was shaped like that to get round the rolled edge of the side skin without touching it. the brackets are for sideways movement not for taking the weight of the exhausts which is still taken by the original brackets. Reinforcing plates inside is still a good idea.
Observation- Be careful the new brackets don’t vibrate and rub on the rolled seam and crack it or damage the soft aluminium alloy. I’m thinking you’ll need a spacer -
As is the way with all this sort of thing the brackets could be improved. They are made from 25x4mm stainless steel which is surprisingly strong but i was focusing on sideways movement. If made from say 30x5mm and were longer and had 2 bolts through the seat support angle as suggested by Paul they would then take the up and down movement better. These ones do make a significant difference though as can be seen in this little video, and yes the same force was used before and after!
