Those straps and their tightening are a vague set of rules. I was changing my rear shock today and plucked the straps like a guitar string and one was a different tone than the other. Almost slip your finger behind it( the low tone one).
There has to be a better way.

Has anyone come up with a torque spec for the straps? Or any way to know what is tight enough?
Just lean on the rear end of each tank and try to move it up and down. They should be quite firm and if there's excessive movement then the straps are too loose. I usually aim for movement of 5mm or less but it's not an exact science. If you've run out of adjustment on the tensioner thread, try slipping a spacer between the strap and chassis where the strap feeds around the chassis tube just behind the seat back. If the straps have been running loose, they are likely to be bunched up at the bottom of the adjuster bracket slot so don't forget to reposition them before re-tightenning. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/10/06/Annotated-Fuel-Strap-Adjusters.png)

On my 2019 car the chamfer on the box section extends a 1/3 of the way below the top of the belt, it is flush with the top of the belt in Andy's picture above. Wonder why they did that as it leaves a sharp edge that the belt sits on. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/10/07/D35BD63A-E83F-4FE5-BBDC-CDA33B04233C.jpg)

Yes, that doesn't look good at all! I would be tempted to make up a U section to fit over the cut-away box section to protect the belt from that sharp edge. It would also give you a little more adjustment on your tensioner which looks to be pretty much at the end of it's travel. The fact that the strap is at the bottom of the adjuster slot indicates that it has probably been running too loose.

Looks like they decided it wasn’t quite lame enough so took it to the next level.

Lame is a good description Have done as you suggest Andy. Used some Lead flashing which is easy to shape and adds packing, also carried out your bracket mod, no cracks were present. Why they didn't weld the belt tensioner bracket at the back of the box section I've no idea, plenty of thread and would give more adjustment. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/10/08/27A8F52C-7AB1-4582-A6D9-CA735CDBD3A6.jpg)

I agree with your comment about the tensioner bracket positioning. What an easy enhancement that would have been!

Adding that shim to smooth the edges is a good idea and it obviously gives you more belt adjustment.
It makes you wonder what the Italians will do with the design.

Start again at a guess. Next time it would be nice have a Moto Guzzi on the front with a sequential gearbox as well but that would be too much to hope for. It looks like it will be BMW Mini based but the fuel tanks may not crack?
