Inspired by some of you chaps, I've taken the plunge and bought an e-bike. A Cube nature hybrid one 625.

The plan is that we're going to go down from two cars to one, and I'm going to use the bike to go in and out to work (which I do a couple of times a day). I'm delighted to report that swmbo agreed with me that we should keep the SLC and unload the A class, so to hell with practicality.

I've just taken it out for a spin, and it seems perfect for what I want. Although it's not that far to the pub (about 3km), there's a stinker of a hill in either direction, as there's a valley in between. Having a bit of help up the hills will mean I can arrive without being a sweaty mess, yet it'll give me a bit of extra exercise every day.

Nice one Giles. You might want to think about getting a rear rack and maybe some pannier bags. These things are amazing at load carrying and you could find you're doing more and more shopping on it. I'm very happy with mine, especially the hydraulic disc brakes, they are flippin' brilliant - although I do go through a full set of pads every 500 miles.

I think I'll probably do that. I'm going to see how I get on with it as is for now, before pimping it up.

Show us your e bike thread!!!

I have 6 bikes and bought this e bike of the widow of a friend who sadly died before he could use the bike.

I was going to sell it on with the widows agreement but then I decided to keep it and make it into something err a bit different

Its also a cube mountain bike weighs 24 kgs and is quite different to a "normal" bike

The Bosch motor cuts out at 15.5 mph and as I can cruise at 17/18 mph the battery is hardly used.

In fact I have done a 100 mile ride on it in a day and only 15% battery usage.

Anybody who calls it cheating has never ridden one !!!!..Its a different way of keeping fit !!!

You're supposed to pay before leaving the shop

Whenever anyone tells me I'm cheating I just tell them we've re-written the rule book.

That trailer looks very handy indeed.

Several of my regulars are pretty serious cyclists, most of them also have an bike somewhere in their armoury.

Very efficient looking, are they custom pannier bags Kev?
After resisting for many years I am contemplating mountain bikes, we have road bikes but SWMBO has always pushed for off highway riding and I just think this new gravel bike thing is cynical marketing by the bike companies, (NZ gravel is 2" across) . Unfortunately most shops are having an unprecedented sales boom with people not able to travel, so stock is very limited and the usual discounting missing. I dare not let her see this thread or we may end up going down another path.
