One tiny piece of grit under the strap will scratch. A mixture of grit, dust and water will make an abrasive paste. The paint will suffer, so don't bother.
However, there is a way...........
Stick a neoprene strap on both bonnets using double sided tape. Make it slightly wider than the strap. Then the strap will abrade the neoprene, which can be peeled off and replaced as required.
BUT - the paint might fade around the neoprene.........
Use high density neoprene for this fix - at least 3mil.

Has to be the only answer - why don't all the racing Morgans have one is probably the only question one needs to ask. Besides like all these other bolt on stick-on things they only add weight

When Life's fitted mine, they put felt on the underside to prevent it rubbing and marking the paintwork.
One problem is that grit can collect there and I guess that there's still a danger of scratching the paintwork.

and the answer is that racing Morgans don't have them because they flap around and scratch the bonnet and they are overpriced!. Instead we use these:

Excellent and the price you could cry if you had just had a leather/sheepskin fitted. Must admit I did wonder if you might need something for racing because the torsional strain you impose hopefully is a bit more than the average Morganeer will do on the road.

What about using a ban of the protective film that the chaps are speaking of elsewhere on the forums?

But that is to stop damage from the odd stone chip, not persistent rubbing on a certain spot.

3M paint protection tape would definitely work.
