It seems to me a more business as usual but with enhanced bio security for those who need to shield is the solution . The current approach will destroy our culture & economy. Wont work. The majority of those with the infection dont isolate..No way would those younger people who do to work stay away from the older ones who needed to isolate. The problem isnt devising rules but getting people to follow them, particualrly when in the real world you have no possible enforcement. Instead you have to play a statistical game. You close down an area. Many people's habits will be changes. Some wont change at all. Others will be very obedient. On average there will be less virus spread and its the average that matters.

The Malvern Show Organisers were throwing desperate life lines for anyone who wanted to attend, there were still Electric Hook ups available within the last month, that is very unusual.
All the night internment events were cancelled which was the reason we decided not to go, apart from our thoughts on distancing, some people are still not educated in knowing what 2mtr are.

I am not of the type who would ever wish to dictate how others should behave, as I see it the more risk you take the more chance you have of catching and spreading the virus, I would rather do neither thus I try to follow the rules. Being on the wrong side of seventy I can just about remember what it was like to be 20, and thus expect those with active hormones may take a chance on this that or the other, thus no matter the regs it seems some entirely natural aspects of expected human behaviour may overrule all..? I went for my click and collect shopping this morning mask and gloves on once parked up and standing by the tailgate, the service provider had neither mask, gloves or maintained social distancing.... Shrug, as seems normal he was a nice chap who wanted to reduce the distance between me and my shopping and be as helpful as he could.... There are so many situations where those tasked with creating regulations and advice to try to keep us safe, are really up against it, and the media seem to be spreading confusion rather than keeping on-message in an already confused situation... Today they were reporting POSSIBLE/probable changes to the advice which can do little more than increasingly confuse the easily confused. Sure it`s you choice if you want to go and eat out, or attend an event with numerous folk in which it could be near to impossible to ensure you can keep everyone two or more meters away from you and yours... Bottom line is, that for whatever reason YOU have decided to take a RISK that may or may not affect not only you but others you care for too.... YOUR choice...? I suspect those who have been affected by Covid may be less inclined to take risks than before...? Me I have recently attended two track days, one of which I went nowhere near the pits, given I knew social distancing would be close to impossible, I was more than happy to park up well away from everyone else, and had taken steps to avoid any use of the facilities available at the track, and spent the majority of my time track-side which for the most part was hundred of yards distant from the next nearest person, these were the only two motoring events I attended this year. Was there any possible risk....? I can think of numerous possibilities... Thus I too took a risk to get my petrol head fix for the year, when for most of this year I have not strayed more than a few yards past the boundaries of our garden.... ! Perhaps best to try to stay safe folks..

Still lots of campervans and a few campers down here this week. This afternoon we walked along the embankment in Dartmouth and saw 3 coaches, these are the first we have seen since the original lockdown, so things are moving once again although tentatively.
Most accommodation is very busy and quite a few "for sale" houses have been snapped up by ex city dwellers for homes or second home retreats as they realise these restrictions are a long haul, if not a new way of life long term. I don't blame them either.
The amount of people around is just like the last week of August it's pretty surreal.

For me the major problem is children. They must, by now, be well aware of the dangers but they simply don't give a damn. It has been shown that many of the households that have severe cases have been infected by younger members with little or no symptoms carrying the virus to parents and grandparents.

Peter, why should we expect the young give a damn about us? From their perspective our generation has "had it all" and now live in comfortable retirement with often significant assets in property and savings. Bluntly, we are in the way of their inheritances. Rationally, it is hard to disagree. The know COVID won't harm them to any significant degree, if one of us gets it and dies it is sad, but not the end of their world. When my Grandparents died in the early 70s I was sad, but I swiftly consigned them to memories but when my parents died it was different. Our kids are thoughtful and help, but I wouldn't expect any other kids to be so. It is our responsibility to stay safe, which we do. But I don't expect any of the younger generation to go out of their way to help us stay safe.

I am with you Peter within reason. If there were clears rule like masks , 2m etc it would work but closing pubs at 10 only drives crowds of boozed up folk onto the streets & then to hidden parties.

Dare I say, my younger daughter (27) is fed to the back teeth of all the blame being piled on "the young".
She and her BF have been extremely diligent in following the rules, and both are irked by the implied criticism.
FWIW, when I went to Southwold last Thursday to collect beer, the town was really thronged with old codgers, no doubt having a get-together to moan about young people. I didn't stop for lunch there, as I was self-isolating (having just arrived from France), but there were so many people I wouldn't have wanted to. I only got out of the van to load the beer at the Adnams distribution centre.

People towing the line does work, we have no one in hospital with it at present in NZ and just gone back to level one across the country . Those coming in are locked up for two weeks before being released after three or more tests. Internal tourism is booming and I can see why the Team Ineos AC guys were so keen to get here. We have an election next weekend and the opposition are struggling to score points re the current Labour lots handling of this crisis. With the pub culture in the UK I can see that containing outbreaks is a great deal more difficult. Just about everyone uses the Covid tracker on their phones when out and about, the mk2 version works -the original was rubbish. Stay safe all of you, the one thing not talked about is the long term effects of catching this virus....
