Looking at your picture it's different from others I've seen, and as mine. And I see yours, as mine, is different color. More like “gold” metal while the others I’ve seen are truly metallic grey. What year is your car? In fact, your two pieces are not centered, and I doubt they're even welded. Thinking deeper, maybe the purpose is that while tightening the front screw the rear part also "pinches" the Ω-shaped bracket. And stays fixed by simple pressure. In mine, the front screw is solid rock tightened. Maybe I should lose it and see if putting back in place the two pieces and tightening the front screw it pinches and gets fixed as it might do.

Tricky to know if this is a new feature of latest cars or not. I’ll work on it tomorrow again and tell you.

Obie - and JohnMat - you were right! My initial anger made me see things that are not. My support is broken, that's not good news. But fortunately the two pieces were originally welded by the internal side / face, so when the weld spots (two tiny sparks) broke - I guess that the vibrations were too much for a couple of fragile tiny welding spots - the part holding the filter remained hanging from the Ω-shaped bracket that is screwed behind the backrest. Unfortunate to have the piece broken, fortunate design. Otherwise the filter would have fall on the drive belt just by the shock absorber. Could have be a disaster.

Can you use those two bolts just below the filter to mount two padded/cushioned clamps to hold the filter?

Clamps like this, although this is a filter setup from Morgan Custom the clamps are what I had in mind.

Stephen, I guess this is part of Emil's fuel installation, isn't it? Looks neat.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. They're always welcome. And when it comes from you, knowing you're really skilled, I pay much attention to them.

Your proposal sounds pretty good. I'll go to the hardware store right now. I'll see if I can find solid clamps with the correct diameter. But I believe it's going to be easier for me to drill a couple of small holes and put nice SS304 bolts and lock nuts than finding good solid clamps with the correct size.

Silly question to everyone: if I disconnect the fuel pipes from the filter to make the support re-installation easier, I'll have fuel splits. Is it a lot like the Deepwater Horizon disaster, or just a little that can be "hold" with a cloth?

If I can disconnect the fuel filter without huge leaks "Exxon Valdez style", how do you clean the filter? Or is it a sealed unit?

When you disconnect the fuel hoses from the filter there will only be a small amount of fuel that will come out. Quite a bit of fuel is retained in the filter which if kept horizontal will stay in, the filter is a sealed unit.

Yes, that is Emil’s fuel system filter but those clamps were what I was suggesting. You brought up the question,”how do you clean the filter”, well you cannot do that, it is sealed and you throw it away if dirty. How can you tell of it is dirty? No way other than a change in the way it runs because it is the fuel pressure regulator as well. In Emil’s system the regulator is up under the bonnet and is adjustable, and the filter is in the boot and is a replaceable canister.

There are so many upgrades ! I wish I could do them all at once!
