I think you could argue that the bike should be treated as a new bike in all respects.
MMC completed Tarka in July 2013, but didn't register until April 2014, when the warranty started.
Tarka was driven on trade plates, which made it at least legal.
Your RE was ridden on unregistered = false number plates.
You could also ask the Insurance Company for the premium back, as they were not carrying any risk...

In the end it depends how much of a fuss you want to make.
I think I'd forget it all,and be happy that when it comes to a sale you have won a 12 month relief from depreciation...

Suprised that you managed to insure it without a valid number plate. You can insure on the Chassis Number (as I did with my MT500) but usually need a reg number which they cross reference with the MID.

Stranger stuff happens.

I got a Merc from MB Fleet Sales on a 2 year lease. 2 months after I got it I went to register it on the TfL London tax scam congestion web site. It told me it was a pink FIAT 500 pop 1.2l. Needless to say this came as a surprise to me as I don't normally hear the sound of a V8 from a 1.2? They had put the wrong plates on the vehicle at PDI. Difficult to mox up an E63 Estate in Black with a 500 in pink you would have thought.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

K

The dealers are assigned a block of registration numbers you can choose from. I’ll be having words with them tomorrow when I get it down for it’s delayed service!

Back in 1966 I bought a new MG Midget not only did the dealer give me the wrong car ( with more extras ) but put my number plate on my car and the one I should have had, only discovered at a service.

A friend of ours was driving around for several months with different registrations on the front and back of his car. Only one digit out but it too went unnoticed until first service.

I bought a chop a several years ago from ebay. Paid for it via BACS (big mistake) and then the seller disappeared. Finally managed to get hold of him and after a couple of failed attempts went down to pick it up.

When I arrived, was a little perturbed to find I was in the workshop of a rather infamous black and white bike club. They pulled a reg plate and V5 out of a bin bag that vaguely matched the bike (there were a lot in there) and I was out of there as quick as my little legs would carry me.

Once home, did as many checks as I could to see if it was legit, made up my own VIN plate and to date, everything has been OK smile
