![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/10/13/1D8800B5-23F3-4D6C-9405-DB9D11F3B1C2.jpg) "A Corona Virus lesson" This picture from World War II, a soldier carrying a donkey. It is not that the soldier loves donkeys or has some sort of perversion. What's happening is that the field is mined and that if the donkey was free to wander as it pleased, it would likely detonate a charge and kill everyone. The moral of the story is that during difficult times the first ones you have to keep under control are the jackasses who don't understand the danger and do as they please. Great photo Phil!

I am also pro vaccine. I find it odd that so many children are not getting the MMR vaccine. There is a lot of ill informed rubbish out there, often on social media, of the SMALL ( and I mean SMALL) number of side effects. They are statistically very small. However, as with the Chinese Whispers effect, this escalates by putting fear into the minds of parents who don’t think about the extremely low risk. A lot of people expect a perfect zero risk. They are prepared to go for holidays by plane, drive long distances, drink, smoke, eat a poor diet each of which carry higher risk levels. The same with face masks. They are not perfect but do help with some reduction of spread as part of the rule of 3....mask, distance, wash hands. So many argue that masks are a waste of time due to not being a perfect barrier. The big problem facing us is the number of people who have this attitude of deniability, invincibility, desire to do what they want....the ass effect.

I have spent more than 15 years doing qualitative studies in Germany for one of my clients, a major British vaccine manufacturer. Over the years, my staff and I have conducted a number of in-depth interviews with paediatricians, among others. Fortunately, the majority of paediatricians are vaccination advocates. They all agree that a big problem is that today's young parents have absolutely no idea how sick and deformed a child can be without vaccination. For many parents, MMR, for example, has become an abstraction, like a formality. Many of them no longer know what life-saving achievements are involved. But this is the kind of parent who has their children vaccinated.
And then there is this other kind of parent, a significantly smaller but dangerous group. These are anti-vaccination activists. They have no idea what kind of danger they are exposing their children and the kids of others to. They feel confirmed if their children do not fall ill. But they do not want to believe that it will only turn out well with a little luck, because the others around them have their children vaccinated. These vaccination opponents are defiant and incorrigible parasites. I wish them a life in the Middle Ages, so they are welcome to be anti-vaccination campaigners there.
What I am writing here was already valid 10 years and more ago. Today I have the impression that the fronts are hardening even more. It is as if some circles of people are increasingly rejecting science and research. They no longer associate well-being and health and progress with it, but they look at science and research (including medicine) with suspicion and distrust. And...they believe rat-catchers who pretend to have "alternatives". Please understand me right , we don't have to be vaccinated against every exotic eventuality of a disease in the Amazon region here. But there should be a common sense of reason that what everyone here should do as part of their collective to be their duty. Unfortunately, I assume that there will also be refusers if vaccination against corona is available. But they are also harming themselves.

I have often wondered why MMR, ie 3 in one. Why can not these vaccines be given separately. Surely that may be more palatable to the nay sayers.

Combination vaccination emerged when nobody questioned the need for vaccination. The advantage should be a reduced financial and logistical burden for doctors and parents. And also the minimisation of the number of unsightly injections for the child. And it would be a nightmare for many paediatricians if they had to hold three exhausting discussions with increasingly insecure young mothers.

Here is an article about the chance of a second infection with C19. Just delete the cookies if you cannot read it. So far it looks not too bad to be armed after a first infection, at least for a period of time. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/13/...ence%20%20Technology&pgtype=Homepage

Restrictions are being increased on an almost daily basis in Italy. There are now several "red zones" where at least a partial lockdown is in place. There is another meeting taking place today which will probably announce even further restrictions.
The thing that is often overlooked is that today's figures on Covid are already old news and even if we had a total lockdown today it will make no difference to the increasing rate of hospitalisation for at least 2 weeks. To get the real figure one has to project the current curve 2 or 3 weeks into the future.

I have come to the conclusion that in most countries COVD is out of control and there is nothing that any Government can actually do to stop it, without closing all schools, universities and non critical businesses.
The more testing that is carried out, the more positive cases that are found and the more the Governments feel they must act. They are between a rock and a hard place, do nothing and bee seen to be callous and uncaring, put lockdowns in place and see the economy further damaged and public confidence further eroded and resistance in some communities.
I'm very glad I'm not responsible for making decisions.
