Hi dears, i would like to know your opinion about oil pressure of my 1971 4/4, is it normal the instrument usually at 25 with cold and hot engine? Water is always normal, no overheating in the traffic, but in the highway it goes up, between N and H, what is your advice? Thanks to all of you!

Oil pressure on my '76 4/4 remains pretty constantwhether hot or cold.
Water temperature also goes up when pushed along motorways, but not as much as yours. It might be worth removing the radiator and giving the core a good flush, plus a wash out of the block's waterways.
Do you have a standard engine fan or an electric replacement?
Cheers,
Graham (G4FUJ)

Hi Graham I have a standard engine fan, what about your oil pressure? Let me know about your oil pressure (the instrument's data) Regards!

My 72 4/4's got a high pressure oil pump and runs at about 75 PSI normally which drops to around 25 PSI on tickover.
The car usually runs bang on the 'N'. Today, on Polish motorways, we regularly saw 30 centigrade but it didn't budge from that.

Out in the Mog on Saturday. Mine's not a modified engine. At idle, hot or cold pressure gauge reads around 25 psi, up to about 1200rpm. Above 1200rpm up to 2000rpm and higher the pressure gradually climbs to a little below 50 psi. Pressure is very slightly higher on a cold engine (but there is only a tiny difference).
Cheers,

Dear Graham, do you think that 25 is a poor pressure or acceptable? Frankly speaking i don't remember oil pressure when car was quite new... the fact is that actually i'm afraid to drive my Mog for long trips dued to oil pressure... what could you suggest to me? Have a nice day and best regards! Fabio

I think that 25psi at running speed is on the low side. Change the oil & filter if not done recently, so you know it is good quality. Then locate the oil pressure relief valve. Remove and check that it’s not sticking open. If parts are available consider replacing the valve and spring. Finally, slacken the oil pipe union at the gauge with the engine running at idle. Use a large rag to catch the drips of oil, and don’t over-loosen. While you do this the gauge will drop almost to zero, but when you retighten, you’ll have purged any air which may be in the line. If the pressure remains low after that, there may be bearing wear, but it should last a while if you don’t over rev it!

A Kent expert will know, (Graham??) but the relief valve is held behind a large nut head, usually near the oil filter housing. If you find it take care removing because there is a spring pressure behind it. Mark the nut with a blob of tippex, and note when the threads disengage. Then when you reassemble, you must push hard against the spring, so knowing roughly where the thread starts will help.
