Leroy .... what's the level on your oil dipstick like? .... if being low on oil was a red herring then you now have 2L more than you should .... not familiar with your exact motor but many modern engines mustn't be run 'overfull' .... if the oil is now above the max you should remove enough to get it where it should be before running it. Hope things work out for you

I've got a feeling it will about 2 litres over 😂 will drain it when I can, and go from there. The joys of motoring!

You don't give the mileage of your Roadster but the S1 you have tend to be pretty reliable even when raced, they often show a fairly low oil pressure when hot, not helped by the inaccurate gauges.

I would concentrate on your coolant problems & cure those first, the black plastic cap on the expansion tank needs to be on REALLY tight or they bleed coolant under pressure when hot

could the initial “smoke” in the footwell actually have been steam from a developing water leak?
overfilling with oil causes the oil to foam as it is aerated by being bashed by the crankshaft. That in turn means that lubrication efficiency is drastically reduced, oil pressure drops which in turn can cause overheating. I wouldn't advise starting the engine again until the oil level has been verified and the water leak repaired. Then advise not to undertake any long journeys until you are sure that no permanent damage has been done.

Cooperman, it's done just shy of 43k. The more I'm looking into it, in convinced it's coolant related. I initially had heat from the air vents, which disappeared due to the lack of water. I didn't check the water level before I started my short journey of a 15 mile round trip, but had only done about 400 miles since it's service in August.. Could the water really have depleted that much in this time, assuming the expansion tank cap was screwed on correctly? Could there be any failed sensor that would allow the cooling system not operated properly, to then overheat and cause a leak?

You should be able to see the water level in the expansion tank next to the wiper motor. On my S1 the level was always between the 2 marks. Take off the cap with the car cold & look for white or brown emulsion which could be oil in the water.
You can get the cylinders pressure tested if you suspect a blown gasket.

When a hose splits, the water will escape rapidly as steam.

You won't lose it all but there will be no pressure in the system and little circulation.

The temp gauge won't show hot even though the engine is overheating.

This will also affect oil pressure.
