I was lucky enough to be made redundant by Volvo U.K. at 45, I say that because I had already agreed a full time consultants contract with Volvo EU and Sweden. I thought it might last a year but it lasted for 7.

It allowed me to pay off our mortgage in the first quarter so before my 46th birthday. It wasn’t planned and not something I wished but I was aware Ford were buying Volvo and would seek 500 headcount reductions in Europe so did some ground work.

It changed everything and no regrets, long hours and days away from home became weeks but being able to totally stop work at 53 was rather nice. It lasted 4 months until I became bored stiff so started driving the mini bus for the local school.

And that’s how the new Plus 8 was funded in 2002 ;-).

Continental drift - or plate tectonics as it is now known just to confuse people even more.

Just looking at other cars in the 1958 guide and the Plus Four had exactly the same performance figures as the Porsche Super 80.

I know two people who had (rather delapidated) 4/4s while at university. One has gone on to MGAs, Mustangs and Harleys - the other to a Q5!

Saves having to hire a live-in carer

At 35 in 1990 I bought my first Morgan for cash. Found it frustrating to maintain it in pristine condition as it was an 85 4/4 with the painted over wing piping that cracked every time you went out for a drive. Having a little pot of touch up paint and filling in the cracks did my head in.

So bought a slightly less pristine 1977 4/4 4 seater and enjoyed that as my everyday driver for nearly 4 years. I remember well going to a meeting in Birmingham a 240 mile round trip with snow everywhere wearing a massive sheepskin and loads of layers to keep out the cold, what great times they were.........now 25 years on I'm glad to be back in the Morgan fold again.

When I was 27 I didnt have two pennies to rub together. If my old Golf needed work to get through an MOT or other maint, the guy used to let me square up on payday

My Morgan is very much my weekend car, but ive managed to do a minimum of 1500 miles a year in it, I don't think I would be brave enough to use it every day although I would love to.

The daily is a Kia Ceed. boring in comparison but it gets over speedbumps etc!

Most of my friends love the Morgan for the style and the character, but they are shocked at the price!
