I had the SS fail MOT on the handbrake at my local garage. I thought it would be a simple issue of getting a new set of brake pads delivered the next day - I must have been smoking something! The hand brake assembly is made by AP Racing (why for parking??) and the pads are Brembo. The garage got through to Brembo but they will not sell them to anyone other than Morgan - so another 3 week delay until I finally received them at a cost of £224 for something that's only slightly bigger than one found on pushbikes! However, they said I was lucky as if it was the rear wheel brake pads then thats a six week waiting time! For a consumable item that is outrageous. It makes you wonder why we ever stay loyal to Morgan!

OK, so I`m typing of experiences of perhaps 30 years ago and more... One used to be able to buy brake show linings and rivets to reline one`s own brakes, and when bonded linings appeared on the scene one could take the shoes with the worn linings to numerous places, Ferodo being one that springs to mind, where provided the metal of shoes were in good condition, they would strip the worn lining material off and bond on new replacements.. at a fraction of the cost of O.E. shoes, especially when thinking 911 handbrake shoes..!!!

OK it is a very long shot now that we are well into being a throw away society, where the skills required to repair so much seem to have been lost... BUT there may be those who can bond lining material to brake rare/expensive brake pads in time..?

I see Ferodo still exist, though expect they too have moved with the time... hmm..?

Which is why they are near useless in the first place. I once owned a 1965 Jensen CV8 with four wheel Dunlop disc brakes. The mechanical handbrake operating on rear discs was useless as well, but would have expected an improvement in the following 55 years!

Richard, I enjoyed a bit of fun with a CV8 in my yoof, even had a couple of Interceptors in later years... (-: As for disc handbrakes on Jags Lotus Elans etc, it did not take much for their operation to be compromised. It seems the drum in disc handbrakes were more efficient and reliable as in the Volvo, the 911 and others... From a dull memory I owned a Citroen that had inboard front discs on which the handbrake operated, but then Citroen were ever innovative..

I think my Aero S5's handbrake would've failed its MOT had it not been carried out via Williams, who use a testing centre that are familiar with Morgan foibles.

None of the consumables on these are unique to Morgan, it’s just a case of knowing what they are, and sourcing them appropriately

So far, I’ve been concentrating on getting a supply of S1 parts in place but I’m happy to help in whatever way we can

The S5 handbrake is supposed to be an improvement over the S4, after an s4 with the handbrake on rolled down the hill at the factory....
