This morning I decided to take the advice of some on the board and start the baffle removal in stages. I took the pipes off and drilled out the front solid plate. It is an easy process after I built a tool that would connect to my hole saw. Once that was built, I knew I needed a little lubricant on the plate so I just drizzled some down the pipe. I read somewhere that you should not have your drill bit in the center of the hole saw. So I decided to try that. After 5 minutes of struggling, I installed the drill bit and it went right through the plug. So I do both sides, reinstall and start the car. I can't tell a big increase in sound so I am happy..I take off to drive up to the house and look in the mirror and it looks like I am fogging for mosquitos. All that oil I used to help drill the hole was burning off. It took about 15 minutes for it to burn off the oil out of the pipe. Fixing to take it for a spin to see if it feels like it is breathing better. Those pipes are easy to remove so if I don't think it helped, I will take them off and go after the cats.

I left the pilot drill in as well since the bit would wander otherwise. Looking forward to hearing your impression.

After taking out that first baffle I have a couple of questions.

1. How far into the pipe was that baffle?

2. How far back was the next baffle?

To answer your questions. The first baffle was at 22". Unfortunately, since that was all I was interested in removing, I did not even look at the second baffle.

I took the car for a ride and went over some steep elevations and the car seemed to be a lot better. It pulled better without having to downshifting. It seemed to have a lot quicker throttle response. The sound was a little louder than stock but let me preface that with this. Today is the first time I drove the car without having a full face helmet on so I don't know if it is really louder or not. All in all I am pleased with the one baffle removal. My next step will getting it some more air by either modifying the back plate on the air filter or buying a complete system. I really do not like the air filter exposed to the rain so I will probably do the modification of the back plate and get a K&N filter and be done.

Get the Stealth cleaner from S&S. It has a stinger that protrudes into the venturi and I am sure that adds to the fuel and air mixing ore efficiently. Plus it is made for the engine.

Took the car out for a short 100 mile run today and I am confident now that the baffle drilling made a real impact on the performance of the engine. The more I drive this car/motorcycle, the more I am loving it. I just want to get my confidence up before I take it way away from home. All the things I have read about the bevel box and Cush drive system has me a little apprehensive but I am sure as I drive it, I will get more confidence in the car. All the noises are typical Harley noises. My first Harley, I thought the engine was running without oil in it. I drove the mechanic crazy for the first year about noises. After I finally realized he was right about the noisy valve train, I took off and never worried. The bevel box noise is not bad at all. I was expecting to hear some awful whining that I couldn't stand. I can hear a whine but nothing bad at all. That compensator thing is what I am concerned about. I will replace that with the upgrade when I have to replace the rubber inserts along with the bevel box support. I just LOVE this car

The bevel box is just noisy, the Centa is the thing you want to baby. Use your finger and wipe inside the bellhousing hole looking for anythother than dust.

what kind of longevity are we looking at for these inserts? I don't hot rod the little car but I don't baby it either. Never been much on burn outs but don't mind banging through the gears every now and then. But seriously, it will be basic driving with an occasional wild hair

I think it depends on the quality of the batch of roller they used at the time and the way you drive it. Dumping the clutch and speed shifting and constant downshift braking will shorten their life. Brakes are cheaper and easier to work on than the Centa. If you ever have to take the Centa out get a Bleazey conversion.
