We visited him again today and while the results are still not in the vet said he is so sick it would be best to put him down now rather than wait a whole weekend before any results come back. We played together for about 30 minutes until he went to sleep and then had the vet put him down. I then buried him in the garden with a lavender shrub on top.
I talked to the vet about showing his brother and they said yes as he will then know what happened. He spent about 10 minutes sniffing him all over and looking at us but seems a lot calmer tonight, I guess it was good for him to know rather than walking around the house looking and calling out for him like he has the last few nights.
It still seem so close to the other cat passing and so young for this poor little guy.

So sorry Chris.
You did the right thing in showing his brother - that will make a real difference to him.

Thanks everyone. I feel sad and while I know he had a good life playing in trees in our garden with his brother and being utterly spoilt with steam chicken thigh fillets, baked salmon or grilled steak for dinner I feel he deserved a lot longer than he got.
His brother is still out of sorts a bit with a sad look on his face, but not walking around calling for him so I am sure showing him his dead brother was the right thing,
Hopefully Sean Connery will give him a pat for me.

Sorry for your news Chris. Actually choked is more apt. We have had lots of cats over the last 21 years and every single time we lose one it breaks our hearts. Two of our current four are getting older so we know what to expect and, like you, will always put them and their health before anything else on this earth no matter what the cost. Every move house wise we have made has always been subject to suitability for cat safety. Myself and Lady HB are both with you and your good lady at the mo. HB

Reading some of these stories had tears welling up......
I had to put down my 17 yr. old cat, Jasper, this past July, and I miss him terribly. He is the last of a long line of cats over the past 30+ years. I don't believe I will acquire another, as at my age, and I live alone, it would be a week before anyone found me and in the meantime the cat would be getting hungry......
People who don't have a cat can't really understand what a cat does to your life, other than your life revolves around the cat. I talked to my cats all the time, had arguments with them and lost the argument! I've said this was the last cat, but......we'll see.
Cheers,
Dave.

I was hoping to never revive this post.
My other bad news is I had the brother Cheeky put down last night, he would have turned two in two weeks.
After Kip the cat of Lymphoma November 2019 my wife bought two Cheetohs Cheeky and Chewie, they were brothers born 23rd of October 2019 ,we got them February 2020 and they were very cute. For those who read the previous posts you will know the smaller of the two Chewie used to love to sit on my shoulder while I worked on the computer or walked around the house and they loved to play with each other. Chewie died 30th of October from FIP (2 days after my sad post he is very sick) which is a cat version of COVID, they said they are sure the brother will have it as well but hopefully be strong enough to kill it, if he lasts to two years he should be fine, he had diarrhoea a bit but it was getting less common as he got older. Cheeky must have been bitten by a snake yesterday, he was fine and jumped on my wife's lap last night for a cuddle but an hour later was not breathing well so I raced him into the emergency vet, they said he was going down hill very fast so before waiting for a blood test they put him on the anti-venom but he kept getting worse and they had to put him down, his heart rate was down to 30 bpm which is about 10 for a human. We will never know but I have a feeling it was a snake bite but when he started to get sick from it the FIP started and he went down so quickly, the cat that died from Lymphoma was bitten by a snake years ago and much worse than Cheeky when taken to the vet but made a full recovery. Feel so sad to have lost both of them in under two years.
I got home at 3:30am, my wife was not allowed to go to the surgery as she had been shopping in a place that later on had a worker test positive for COVID. She is heart broken this morning. I am just trying to build myself up to dig another hole in the garden, poor Cheeky is still in a bag in my car.
