Sold the 356 for lots of money and bought a new 4/4 without even driving one !!!

I can't claim current Porsche ownership, but my former pride and joy up to a few years ago was a 1988 Porsche 930 Turbo Cabriolet. There is nothing quite like spooling the turbo from 2800 rpm upwards and the massive shove in the back, however with no modern driving aids beyond ABS and 300bhp with a spooled up turbo, it was sometimes more than a handful on the bendy bits in less than dry conditions, great fun, but relatively insipid performance by comparison with modern clinical 911 turbo standards.

Having said all that on reflection, there were very few occasions on UK roads one could really tap the potential of the 911 especially the turbo to the full.

regards

I had one of the latest 911 Turbo S cars as a loan car for a couple of weeks recently.
The best analogy I can think of is it was like using Red Rum to do Donkey rides on the beach.
Theres nowhere to use the performance, & it spent 99.9999% of the time at about 950rpm the other 0.0001% seemed to be at 7000rpm if you did more than tickle the accelerator. Only got about 18mpg out of it as well.

Once on holiday an old couple rolled up in a brand new high spec 911. He did nothing but complain about it, especially lack of luggage space.

It turned out his new Aston was in for warranty work, and the 911 was his loan car.

It's a hard life.

In my car searches I've test driven most varieties of modern 911 and boxter short of GT3. There is no doubt that they are a more sensible choice than what I ended up buying but as someone has already said, cars that are flawless arent interesting. They were simply too good, too competent and too fast. And the inside of them was just stardard German car finish much like many Merc and BMW. Bit characterless in summation.

So the time before last I ended up buying an F type which was undoubtedly less competent round a track and likely less well made ( though I had not a single problem with it) but which had bags of character. And was way prettier too.

This is a replacment for a 2012 plus4 bought new and sold after about 40.000 miles of touring around Europe and Scandinavia.

No fair comparison can be made, but it is useful to have a car with functioning gauges, the ability to measure the engine oil level and a roof that doesn't leak.

Happy lock down everyone.
