I've been waiting a long time (almost 6 weeks) to get some fairly basic spares for my S&S engine ie head gaskets and cylinder head bolts. Is this a common problem? Even if these parts had to be ordered from the US I would not expect to be waiting so long. What experience have other owners had?

Hey Rik, are you actually waiting for an answer from S&S, i.e. you can't contact get in contact them - or did you place an order and you wait for shipment?

My local dealer ordered the parts from MMC but they've taken ages. We are waiting for push rod o rings and cylinder head bolts which seem like fairly basic items to me.

Call S&S directly and talk with them about what you need and see what they say. If you are not going to be using the parts yoursel but are going to delegate the work elsewhere if you can get the parts then go for it and hand them to your mechanic.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The parts eventually came from MMC and Krazy Horse (many thanks). Your suggestions are all much appreciated and I'm sure will come into play next time I need some work done.
