Hello everyone!

Sorry to come back with this same subject. But It's quite frustrating: I can't communicate with my ECU using my laptop and the Protune 2 software.

Apparently I'm missing a driver. And I don't know if I really do or what the @#$%¬ is going on with my laptop vs my ECU.

Can you please let me know which drivers you're using to communicate / detect the ECU?

I've followed the S&S tutorials and installed and uninstalled several times the software to check, double check, triple check... I can't accept my laptop (new HP with Windows 10) can't "talk" to my ECU. So frustrated! swear

Hi Javier,
Not going to be able to help you with drivers etc. being a numpty with all things computer!
Can only say my computer is a new HP with windows 10 like yours and can communicate with the ECU without issue. The connector is micro-b USB straight into the ECU, does your car have the OBD2 type connector?

I'm running Windows 10 on a virtual machine in my Mac in order to use Protune, so somewhat of a kludge. But I have no problems, and did not require a driver download to communicate with the ECU.

Sorry that is no help to you. It must be something simple, but oh so elusive, that is causing your issue.

I think the cable that you use to connect the laptop to the ecu can cause this error, i not very techy but i am sure this has been mentioned before

I believe that is a possibility.

My car is built December 2019 (delivered January 2020).

The ECU as a USB tyce C as a communication port. Not a Mini USD or other kind. So it seems to be like very last model / type / version.

I tried to communicate with two different cables. Both very high quality USB C to C. And in both cases the laptop says it sees the ECU, but can't "talk to it" because there is not an appropriate driver.

I'm not an informatic specialist too, but my guess is that this is about finding a simple driver and download it, or maybe my ECU is one of the very latest and MMC has blocked them somehow that not even the ProTune can acces it?

What really annoys me is that at the dealer's garage tey use an old laptop, with USB A to C converter and they can communicate. But they don't use ProTune but a MMC software.

Marmota,

Try getting an USB to USB-C cable and plug it in into an older laptop (you can get an old win laptop for $50 on ebay). I do not believe S&S had updated the driver to work with the USB-C native protocol.

You can also try an USB2.0 > USB-C adapter (hub) and then USB2.0 to USB-C cable connected together, but I suspect you need a USB2 port on a laptop for it to work. Windows version is not an issue, as it works fine in Win10.

Hi Javier,

PM me your email address and I'll send you my drivers which work on Windows 10. No guarantee that they'll help but worth a try.

Good advice. And once you get tired of getting to that ECU Port get some aluminum and make this.

I ran the other end up into the cockpit so the results can be monitored by the passenger on the laptop while driving. I used silicone to glue the cable into the wee little plate once is got it all fitted and operating properly.
