Is there a reason why you've shimmed top and bottom row ? Surely you coud have one row flush with the chassis and just shim the other row? Or re they both shimmed to line up the top shock mount with the bottom mount?

If you fit a panhard rod, that would limit lateral movement.

Yes - the reason is that the shock mounts on the bracket would otherwise not be inline with the lower ones on the U-bolt bracket. With the 4,5mm washer shim there is just a 2mm differences. The shocks slide in easily. If I Ieave all lower shims away it is a 6-7mm difference. This causes the shocks to be in an angle which doesn't look right.

Is it the some both sides? I found my axle was about 10mm out - the main reason for fitting the panhard rod was to centralise it, the handling improvment was a bonus.

There is also a little bit of play available in the bottom U Bolt mounts - perhaps possible to have a slight adjustment there?

The offsite difference is a little less. I am thinking about a compromise. I will replace the lower 3 washers (4.5mm) with a 3mm thick piece of alloy. On the top i will remove one washer. In addition i will remove the washer under the bolt head. This will result in 10mm space between the leaf springs and the bolts. I can only hope that in combination with the Panhard rod this will be enough.

You coutd also make some small gains - lose a washer from behind the bolt head, lose a single spacer washer, add a spacer washer to small space to push the spring inward, move the u bolt clamp a mm outwards = you've them gained almost another 5mm.

if I remember from mine, I've not got huge amount of space. You can just make it out on the photo - and I think the armstrong damper plater is thinner than the rutherford plate.

I made some bumpstop brackets for mine - i don;t think the AVO shocks have them built in (SSL recommend another type of shock which has a built in bumpstop, negating the need for additional stops, like I've made or the ones Rog sells)

I haven't even thought about a bumpstop yet. The factory fitted two rubber blocks beneath the seat frame. I am just guessing that nobody really wants to experience what happens if the axle hits those hard wink

The ones you make look like a good solution to me. In order to get the right height of the bump stop brackets I would need to find the shock position when it is fully compressed and add the height of the rubber block when being compressed, right?

BTW: Who is Rog ? smile

Oh and I should mentioned: By now I wished I would have just gotten different valves for the Armstrongs like you did....

Yep, got me and the mrs stood in the rear footwells and put the bumpstops about 10mm about the axle (ish) at this point. The ones I used are from an Alfa Romeo 105 and are fairly progressive.

Rog is on the forum and he makes bump stop that bolt on to the hoop on modern Mogs.
