Many thanks for the heads up on PVW 392 R JMcl, I can vaguely recal the owner telling me it had an Esprit Chassis, it took quite a bit of cranking before it finally fired up with a bit of a roar, causing me to suspect it had a lumpy cam... been there done that..  These days I prefer standard tune in a sports car.

Pity you never got round to trying out a 60`s Elan Peter, they were very special in their day, when one considers the performance or lack of, in terms of the family car of the time.. Apparently there are those who determine that the MX5 is very close to providing a similar experience but without the expected Early Elan ...err...foibles, but for me the intake roar of the twin Webers and the underbonnet appearance of the Lotus Twin Cam lightweight construction with 10 inch discs all round, carries many special memories of miles travelled...(-: I spent a great deal of time sticking my old Lotus cars back together ultimately I preferred repairing steel bodies for a variety of reasons so kinda gave up on Lotus in time. ........................................ The other guy, probably suffering from the effects of a pre - Christmas holiday work party, which no doubt dulled his sense of self preservation, was not so lucky. My Christmas dinner was soup through a straw.

I suppose I ought to update the thread!
One year and about 3k miles later, I am still smitten with this thing. It had a major service, including cambelt, and I had the head gasket done as the coolant was doing peculiar things. It's raw, lively, and everything I hoped for when I bought it.
But... I am doing far fewer miles for work now, and am daydreaming about swapping my boring daily driver BMW, and my Elise, and combining their roles with an Evora. Maybe.

I'm quite lithe, but can see why some struggle to get out of the Elise.
 I decided not to try getting in one, in case I got stuck! The Evora, on the other hand, was a delight for ingress/egress. Not driven one though. Much the same as an Elise with the same tactile steering but a bit more cumbersome thanks to the extra weight. I never found getting in and out of my Elise to be that much of an issue but SWMBO certainly did, the problem being she didnt have a steering wheel on her side to use for leverage. The McLaren has more than a bit of the same issue but then I believe that 7 out of the 8 m engineers working on the first MP4/12C were ex Lotus. As a drivers car, my Elise was the best that I have had, and definitely better than the Ferraris. The only similarity to a trad is that both have 4 wheels.

Regular updates on my Elise in Absolute Lotus Magazine, but, frankly, there's not much to report. It's a sheer thrill to drive on the odd occasion the weather isn't shite. Great little motors. with the change to heavy BEV's in the future and their wonderful light experience I figure them for serious classics when the well starts to run dry.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I entirely agree but then the original Elan is already there. My Elise is the only car I have ever driven on a test drive, then gone back into the garage and bought it then and there. The steering is simply sublime and with the Toyota engine, the reliability is excellent. When I got too old and stiff to easily get in and out, I went looking for another mid engined car to replace it. The nearest I could get to the feel of the Lotus was a Ferrari and as far as I am concerned, comparing it to a Lotus is flattering the Ferrari. P.S. I see I have said much of this earlier in the thread!  But for me the word Lotus immediately catches my eye.

Nice thread guys: Rich, Love the Lotus purchase! Well done on making such as superb chassis that changed how sports cars are made and drive!
esp as it's from an RAF Chap, fine fellow, decent guy, splendid bloke I'm sure... 8-D
