Choice of hood is of course personal choice. Before the easy up hood became a standard fitment in 2012/13 it was an expensive extra, especially if you had a Simmonds easy up hood which was I believe circa £4000 fitted. Strangely when the easy up hood became standard the traditional hood became a £1000+ extra!

I don't think the easy up hood detracts from the looks of the car especially so since my hood is only up when its parked up in my garage. The advantage of course is its easy to erect if caught out in the UK weather which I'm sure we all have at some time or other.

The main disadvantage to me of the easy up hood is the lack of rear quarter windows, which on the rare occasion I've had when the hood has been up creates a blind spot when emerging from some angled junctions.

Howard, thanks for the link, I was not aware of that useful consumer test. Now, with those pictures in mind, I choose the benny hat today instead of the flat cap for a tour. The benny hat has no speed limit on both. On country roads that is, for the Autobahn better wear a helmet or your natural fur, and secure your glasses.

Regards,
Markus

Easy up is a joke. The Simmonds hood is far easier

Similarly the Allon White hood conversion of trad hoods - very quick and easy to raise and lower.

As a consummate hat wearer innocent I have found the ultimate is a flying helmet. After all you're not going to be travelling much faster than in the cockpit of an open plane. Totally secure, built in wind noise reduction and you're ears warm. Integrates well with a flying jacket of course wink

I would go as far to say a hood spoils the driving experience. It makes the car claustrophobic, difficult to get in and out of, makes visibility poor, and when it rains you still get wet when it leaks.

The choice of hood makes no difference to me. A tonneau with a centre zip and maybe a flying helmet is all you really need and would add to the excitement!

Alas MC won't fit a tonneau cover either. I agree hood up is no fun in any Mog
