My Plus8 is having an MOT next week. It has consistently been borderline on Lambda at top end when delving through previous owner MOT’s. However, checking the old MOT cert from last year it states limit is 1.03. In the DVLA website the emissions doc ( version 19) shows in the annex that Morgans have an upper limit of 1.05. The car passed last year with a reading of 1.03. I will wait and see what the test shows. Question for an MOT expert...how would the emissions testing machine be set up to deal with the higher end Morgan limit? Can it be preset or a manual adjustment made if >1.03 is found? I can only speak from my experience here. The database does not contain an entry for the Morgan so the testers ask what engine is used and enter that. In my case some manual entries can be made but I don't think they can change the emissions limits. Everything gets printed out on the report slip from the machine.

Car passed ok today. Lambda was comfortably within limits. I had taken it for a warm up before hand and the heat shield I put round the cats over summer would have helped. Only watch point was LH rear brake was slightly lower than RH. Ca4 has only done 1300 miles since last November so that won’t have helped. A good reason to drive it to keep it ok! I’ll do a check next week, the shoes are ok but I may change them early anyway. The Mulfab front calliper/stainless flexi hose with new solid disc upgrade last year is a noticeable improvement. Vented disc? Not necessary for road us in my view. Track....yes. Anyway, apologies for thread drift. No fish were harmed during this episode.

Could it be that the original cats fitted by the factory were pretty crap anyway?
Has anyone independently tested an original equipment AR sports cat during the three years before its MoT is due, I wonder? My sports-exhaust equiped Roadster has passed its MoTs, but 'only just' - thanks to an understanding tester. The answer to your question is: yes, they are pretty crap! Read http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/432639/a-tale-of-3-catsThanks for that, Peter. It seems to confirm my suspicions that some of the cats fitted from new are maybe primarily for track use only, and any issues that arise at MoT time will no longer be covered by any form of warranty.
