The garage due to change my two front tyres who I know are familiar with wire wheels have told me they can no longer oblige due to new equipment.
Visited Kwik Fit and the guy on reception had never heard of wire wheels - I had to show him my car! They said they might be able to change them if I knocked them off but they were unsure on balancing so I am not confident.
Apart from making sure I can get them off with the Thor before I book somewhere(they wont have been off the car for two or three years) - is there any other tips on having to use a tyre fitter who is not familiar with wires?

From bitter experience I would not recommend KwikBodge & that was normal tintops
For your location a few have used these, A P Tyres, Rotherham, S62. If you want to borrow my cone set let me know

If the tyre fitter isn't familiar with wire wheels - run away!
All Morgan dealers have the correct equipment to balance wire wheels, or look for a Classic Car Specialist.
I suspect that they didn't order the special cones needed for wire wheels as it cost too much for the number of wire wheels they see.

If you cant get to a Morgan Dealer in your area to fit them then I recommend looking for a Classic Car Dealership in your area.
I went to Wheel Supplier MWS as I lived nearby and even they had a problem with the Rubber Band that fits over the spokes. On my wheels the bands were not substantial enough and the tyre beading just rolled it over exposing a spoke head or two. Needles to say two tyres went flat overnight.
They have the ability to repair the rubber banding which is painted on and cures over 48 hours.
You need an experienced specialist and that is before they get to the special tolls needed for balancing.

Somebody used national tyres mobile service and they were OK with wires but its a lottery.
The guy near Bassets Pole & The Belfry (A446) is very good. Advertises in Miscellany.

Longstone tyres based at Bawtry will sort you out...Douglas Cawley is your man.
His uncle has a real Bugatti T35 and Douglas has a Frazer Nash chain driven special ..so wires are second nature.
Just a blast up the Motorway from you David.

Thank you Kevfitz. I have also used Paul Harris Classic Tyres Dave. It's a good journey out on a good day, but it's also good to know that we have someone closer!
