Here is a cheap one to get someone started, up for grabs this Friday.

This is exactly what my brothers 1975 Porsche 914 looked like, same color, wheels, lettering. This is not his car. He bought it new in 1975 from the local Porsche dealer. It unfortunately didn’t survive very long and met its end colliding head on with a 100 year old tree at high speed. The car saved my brothers life because the front end crumpled very nicely absorbing all the force of impact.

I was in college at the time. I thought it was a really fun little car. The sound of the midship engine right behind the seats was very nice. Wish I had it now.

SFO, protruding sills... REALLY..? As a Morgan driver you should be well practised enough to clear the Porsches little sills without a second thought....(-:

Dean, I suspect there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche and more so an old Porsche given the parts prices for the cheapest Porsche will be rather expensive, but the way Morgan seems to wish to be seen as an up market brand, the days of cheap and cheerful simple plucky little Brit sports car, may be in the process of demise...? I thought the 928 a worthy successor to the 911, A pal of mine ran a manual 928 on which I did a bit of work over the years. The complaint that it was water cooled and too large and comfort orientated to be a sports car, kinda raises the possibility that Porsche engineers may have been ahead of the game back then given water cooling became a must in time, and given the dimensions driving aids and creature comforts of modern-day 911 derivatives....?

Sportster, I never liked the 914 neither did the UK market in general, it was ever thought to be more VW than Porsche at the time, it`perhaps gained a bit more acceptance but not by much as the 914/6 when it increased the cylinder numbers from four to six. Today..? I suspect as ever rarity and the Porsche name combined may make it seem interesting, but for me it was the angular aspects of it`s form that I found unattractive, I thought the VW Karmann Ghia was a much more attractive proposition of that era..

I always regarded the 928 as a GT (Grand Touring) car, rather than pure sports.
Plenty luggage room and a relatively effortless drive. Great mile muncher. Bit like my 986S (but without the drop top).
Perhaps a trifle thirsty. I expect that one Dean has posted is likely to go for a lot more unless there are serious problems with it.

Graham, I thought much as did/do you re the 928, until my friend who had covered many thousands of miles in his manual 928, took me round a very tight race circuit in it, The 928 handled wonderfully well to the extent it quite surprised me.

I suspect the 928 in the add, even if a non runner could be worth more than the suggested value in spares for a 928 owner/restorer..? I thought that he build quality and materials used in 928`s were top notch.

There are, or were, a couple in the local classic car club. I'm not a member nowadays, but did spend some time chatting to both owners and another chap I met in a car park as he was about to drive off in his. Several years ago now and prices were climbing. Mind you, that can be said for many cars of the period - even the run of the mill stuff.
All three owners said they had trouble sourcing some parts. I suspect that may have changed now with so much remanufacturing going on.

The people I know who have owned 928's loved them. At it's launch, I thought it a car ahead of it's time.

As with some of the blowhards in the Morgan fraternity who seemed so violently anti-Aero when it came out, so with the 928. Some of the traditional 911 fans hated it just because it wasn't a 911. Objectively, the 928s were great cars.

My dentist has a 968.
I really like it and although I’ve only ever been a passenger, I was impressed.

I think the Old Boss of TM has had a couple of 911s if my memory serves me right. where is he ?

The buckets seats are low, as is the car, so clearing sills is harder than Morgan. Plus it’s over 4 years since I last got out of a Morgan
