I have had a 911SC and more recently a 992C4S. There is no doubt that the 992 is a very well engineered and screwed together. The combination of speed, stability and fuel consumption is impressive. - the only technical issue I had was that the tyre noise is too much on most UK motorways but fine in most of Europe.

I did get pretty fed up with the amount of abuse and people cutting me up in the 992 though and hoping to be let out of a junction - forget it. It is the polar opposite treatment to what I have received in a Morgan.

I would like a Singer 911 though and perhaps as they look like a classic 911 it might be the subject of less abuse.

Just had the one 911. A 1989 964 Carrera 2 bought for £24k in 1996, couldn't afford a 993. Put 50 k miles on it and sold it in 2000 for £20k. Running costs weren't too bad. If you kept it tracked it was a stunning car to drive. I had the speedo needle lying on the 170MPH mark on the autobahn until I figured I might run out of skill and hurt myself. Tempted to buy a 991, a left hooker for European trips.

I feel inadequate...
I've never owned a Porsche...
I've never even sat in a Porsche...

The only Porsche I ever wanted was a 944.... Front engine, rear wheel drive, water cooled. A smart Audi, really.... hide

Porsche passed me by. When I wanted one I couldn't afford one. When I could afford one I didn't want one. I've sat in a few, ridden in one.

They are just not on my frequency. I do like the 944 though.

Never owned one, and was a bit sniffy towards them until I drove this one round the Welsh Mountains (Tregaron to Rhayader - out on the Cwmystwyth, back via Abergwesyn). I think it was a Carerra 4s or something like that. My mate chopped it in for a GT3, and then a GT3RS

Very impressed by how easy it was to drive fast. Fantastic bit of engineering.

However, even if I could afford it, I wouldn't get one. They're all a bit too golf club/hairdressery for me smile smile

Love these 1970 models I still think they are a thing of beauty, I couldn't afford one at the time and I certainly can't afford one of this vintage now either.

tbh these days I would prefer a really well sorted TR6, another one that got away at the time.

Having been driven in Martin's new 911 I do think they are very special motor cars.

This is probably not the type of Porsche you had in mind...

This was probably my worst car decision ever. I'd decided I needed a more sensible car, changing from an SL63 AMG (the 5.5 V8 (great car)), so went with the Macan GTS. Instant buyers remorse.

It could be fun to drive but only when you drove it like you'd stole it. Day to day, it was just to easy, no fun.

I've obviously scrapped the idea of a sensible car this time around!!

My1999 Boxster. Last year of the original design. Ordered from the factory in 1999. Only 30,000 miles. Still like new. Picture was taken this year.
