John, thank you very much for the link. TBH I was aware of this GoMog page, it was more or less the starting point as a base of this project. And when the leaf springs started sagging even more I thought it is now the time to try it to remove the LBs

It's interesting what your findings are Heinz. I've been a bit concerned about the firm ride over bumpy surfaces (thus the reason for starting this thread). I checked yesterday on my bump stop clearance and I cannot push my little finger between the axle and the bumpstop when I load the car with my weight (65kg). So thats about 8mm which doesnt seem much. The ride can certainly be jarring at times. I might look at reducing the bump stop height as you have done. That cant be right in engineering terms - only 8mm of suspension travel when you are in the car and how much less when you have a passenger? You must be jarring the whole structure every time you hit a good old fashioned british pothole. Or am I misunderstandint what you are saying ? Is this abound rebound stops ie to stop the axle hitting the underslug chassis. Or bump stops to stop the axle hitting the body on full compression of the springs?

Howard, this 8 mm mentioned by thelastgizmo is not the full suspension travel. It is just the rebound travel which must be added on top (the bounce above normal zero) to see the whole travel way.

I dont know how much effective suspension movement there is on other sports cars but I am sure its more than 8mm. Am I misunderstandint what you are saying ? The axle is above the chassis so the more weight you put in it, the bigger the gap will be.

Thanks folks. It occurred to me after I wrote the initial post and I found your comments after I had corrected it. "Bump stops" are normally to stop the suspension at maximum compression travel when you hit a bump. Doesnt the trad have those?

Just for reference, the 4 seater has about 4" of suspension travel before it starts making contact.

It looks like my situation is the same as yours. Except I have the thin (6mm) rebound rubbers which replaced the thick rubbers when the springs were changed.
I'm due to see New Elms tomorrow to try to sort out some dampers which enough travel and long enough to fit at full extension. We might have to use thicker rubbers like you have. Jackmorini, I would like to agree. Just try a thicker rubber as a rebound stop. If the resulting gap is in the region TBM has posted by Peter Ballards’ qoute, 1 cm to 1,5 cm it should be easier to find a fitting damper. In my case, this AVO type M6 of Cain is a perfect match.

MMC fit that bit of rubber on the hoop as a bump stop , it connects with the diff. Suspension dampers may or may not have bump stops inside them. Rogers bump stops are a good option.
