Went to Shaftesbury today to check on the MOG at the paint shop. Whilst nearby I figured I would check out Tim Ayres new premises. My first impression is that it is a first class set up. He now has a showroom which today had an Aero, and a couple of classic MOGs. Including a left hand drive two tone 1950s plus 4. Anyway I have no connection to New Elms and all was social distance with muzzles on!

I wonder if Tim is after becoming an official Morgan dealer?
His last place was not the sort of location that MMC consider to be acceptable.....
He certainly knows Morgans.
That would be fantastic!

Hello Dave, I envy you having seen New Elms's new premises as I await my opportunity to visit! Did you see a bright yellow +8 four seater there? I don't think it's gone off to the trimmers yet, and I'm hoping to collect early next year.

Cheers

Given the number of long established dealers who have given up their dealership with MMC over the last couple of years I doubt very much that anyone would want to go down this route in the current climate. I suspect (without any evidence I stress, just my opinion) that MMC require dealers to buy so many cars each year whether or not they had an end customer at the time of ordering, as well as obviously operate from a “modern” and extensive premises. MMC also have recently announced their own dealership from the factory which must rankle the existing dealers. Given the choice of going to the factory to place an order, with all attendant bonuses of getting a factory tour and seeing the cars in manufacture before picking the car up when ready from the factory must be a huge advantage, surely?
Notwithstanding that, it would be great for Tim to get a dealership. He looks after my Roadster superbly and is a great guy with a super team expert in their field.

MMC have had their own "dealership" at the factory, on and off, for several years...

Yes, I have seen your MOG. The car looks good and is indeed in good hands. The paint work looks lovely. Bet you can't wait until next year.

Regards

Yes, Graham, I am aware of that as I bought my ARP4 directly from the factory in 2016.
However, I have never seen them promote it in the way that they did last week, and, on the back of the big investment in their new showroom etc etc it seems that they are very determined to promote more business by direct sales.
If ai was a dealer now I would bit just a little bit p*ssed off.

Thanks for the reply Dave and Tim had told me he was very pleased with the paint job. I am very eager to get it as due to Covid car has been delayed somewhat and I am Morganless for the first time in 27 years having sold my '74 4/4 four seater to a friend late summer.

I am sure it will be worth the wait and I may end up with the only LHD four seater +8 in existence. I really like the look of the old four seaters when hood down and no luggage rack. I have personalised a few other things and am hoping I will have a drivers seat that goes back further than in my old '78 +8. Being somewhat long in the legs I always lacked a bit space in that car.

Cheers
