Another excellent bit of information to go into the growing knowledge base. Many thanks, can only imagine how much of a pain it was sourcing the replacements and the relief when they matched the originals.

Some more info for track rods. Having found one knackered track rod I ordered a FEBI BILSTIEN 22767 as per the alternative parts list which of course didn't fit my car. My fault for not measuring the length of the knackered one and realising that something wasn't right so had a delve into the Bilstein website and found one that would do the job; a FEBI BILSTIEN 103606. The other thing that should have rung alarm bells in my mind was that the Rose joints in the parts list have a female thread; mine have male threads and a female-female coupler to connect them to the track rods. The new rod that I've just fitted is 10mm longer than the original which means that I've got 5mm more thread engaged on each end of the F-F coupler which seems like a good idea since there was only 10mm engaged at each end with the old rod. The photo probably shows this more clearly than the words; top rod is the FEBI BILSTIEN 22767 the middle one is the original complete with the coupler and rose joint with the lock nuts pretty much in the positions as they were on the car and the bottom one is a shiny new FEBI BILSTIEN 103606 complete with an equally shiny new PTFE lined Rose joint. And if anyone wants one of the FEBI BILSTIEN 22767 rods give me a shout...free to a good home! ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/11/23/Track-Rods-6353.jpg)

I assume your rack is an early one with the track rod end coupler Calum? I remember seeing some cars with those track rods but not many. That does look better with a bit more thread engagement. Thanks for the part number info, something else for the next Alternative Parts List update.

Useful info Calum. My 2012 car has the same threaded F-F couplers as yours, although it looks like mine have been painted black since new.

It was an early one...but was replaced a couple of years ago after the argument with the tree! Suppose that makes it a new old one. I don't know but have a feeling that although the rack was replaced, the insurance might have only covered the track rod on the side that did the tree surgery so the one that has failed may have been the original, eight year old one. Are the newer ones stronger?
Not that I know of, just shinier!

Good info sharing thanks!!
know our rack is a v early one (April 2012) and the suspension/steering geometry is from the small group using the original Suplex coil/shock units with a "comfort kit" retrofitted so I expect some fun when it is time to do the same replacement.

Calum does your new rose joint end have a grease point? The ones my car gained with the comfort kit had greasers but the replacements fitted by Revolutions in September dont which seems odd to me on a rose joint.

No, I got the PTFE lined ones which aren't supposed to be greased Apparently greasing can stop the PTFE getting picked up from the liner on to the ball so you end up with more friction and faster wear than if you leave them dry...according to the manufacturers anyway!
