On TV they have just had a documentary about the FIAT test track that was built on top of the factory at Lingotto in Turin. I have never heard of this before and looked up a few things on the interweb.

As far as I can see the track was used from about 1920 to about 1980 when the manufacturing was moved to a new factory. It is still in use for rallies of classic and vintage cars. It is a one kilometre long ring with steeply sloping parabolic curves at the ends.

It is a bit difficult to find anything in English on this but the film hardly needs translation.

This is a 360° video which is best watched in the YouTube app - amazing

I seem to remember that the track on the roof of the Fiat factory was used as part of the production process..? When cars came off the end of the line they were tested by driving them up onto the roof round the track and back down again which was thought to be a test of all systems prior to shipping..? I watched a UK TV prog in the 90`s (?)that showed production when the factory was in full swing. Could perhaps have been the UK TV documentary prog series Horizon, one of which I have posted before.

Yep, some of the Mini lads sometimes go over

IIRC it's now a hotel complex and they don't want numpties driving round the roof, even access to pedestrians is locked off
