As we move from one lockdown into another, it still feels like a life on hold, a life in the waiting room. For me, 2020 has (so far) been the Year of Standing Still. I have listened to many episodes of Desert Island Discs, and read a fair chunk of books. For some of us, 2020 has perhaps been the Year of Reading, Year of Listening or the Year of Watching.
Our mortality has been omnipresent, and as a personal experience for some of us, both family and neighbour, In recognition of our quasi desert island state, I invite you consider your personal LOCKDOWN (DESERT) ISLAND DISCS. Here are mine (top of the list is the single record you would save if they were in all in danger of being dashed on the rocks):
Enigma Variations, Edward Elgar Close to the Edge, Yes Les Ajones d’Or, from 25 Etude Equisses for Guitar, Gerald Garcia The Deadwood Stage, Doris Day Dawn, Mahvishnu Orchestra Mr Blue Sky, ELO Tumba, Angelique Kidjo Rhapsody in Blue, George Gershwin

I've just completed a lot more projects on car and home than I might have done otherwise. Work in the garden has kept me moderately fit and I've not drunk quite as much. Every cloud etc.
For music I have a favourites play list (mainly 60/70's) on my phone that bluetooths to car radio in preference to DAB.

I've often thought about which 10 albums I'd take with me (never been a singles person other than a few 'pop' songs that I liked). Best of and compilations excluded.
The Who - Who's Next Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Yes - Yessongs Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick Springsteen - Born in the USA Doobie Brothers - Minute by Minute Steely Dan - AJA Donald Fagin - The Nightfly Led Zep - 4 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
set in a certain period of time aren't I?

Crikey. That's quite hard, to narrow it down to 10, and would very much depend on my mood at the time.
Anyhoo, here's a selection of 10 of my faves. Toots and the Maytals Sweet and Dandy is unquestionably my all-time favourite song.
Squeeze - up the junction The Jam - Down in a tube station at midnight Stiff little fingers - Suspect device Prince - Sign of the times Amy Winehouse - Back to black Toots and the Maytals - Sweet and Dandy Desmond Dekker - Israelites Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers to Cross Bob Marley - War Tyrone Taylor - Cottage in Negril

Hmm. Not an easy task to pick 10 albums.
I think I'd have to go for:
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon Mark Knopfler - Sailing to Philadelphia John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett Hawkwind - Hall of the Mountain Grill Gillian Welch - Hell Among the Yearlings Eurythmics - Love is a Stranger David Gilmour - Live in Gdansk Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita Colter Wall - Colter Wall
But there's probably another 10 that could easily be swapped in for most of these.

I am extraordinarily lucky as my wife is a violinist who plays for the Colorado Symphony orchestra and other smaller set ups, during lockdown there have been online rehearsals and recordings nearly everyday. The list has covered some of the great master pieces through jazz to classic pop hits (especially the Beatles), very entertaining.
