We have all probably been to many funerals and, having heard the opening and closing music, thought about what we might like.
As Jess chose the Pure Cremation company, I don't need to choose any music as there is no funeral. We will be having a wake in a couple or three months once the raw emotion has hopefully worn off a bit.

And now for the harder question:
While a sombre and mood-setting piece is definitely the order of the day (something to tug the heart strings perhaps), there's always that tricky closing piece.
It's good to have something rousing, or at least a piece of music to lift everyone's spirits...
My Grandmother, who died aged 108 in 2014, was married to a Naval Officer for 53 years, although he predeceased her by 44 years. She asked for "All the nice girls love a sailor" to close her memorial service. The organist at St Cross, Winchester made a grand job of it, and all of the congregation joined in.

I used to have my funeral all planned out, as I genuinely expected not to last very long.....
However, having now exceeded all expectations, I am leaving it to those that are left to sort out. I'll be dead, they can give the send off they want.....

If 'er indoors goes before me, I have promised to play "Dance Me To The End of Love" for her. If I go first, she gets to decide. I quite like the idea of a piper playing a lament under the oak tree as the sun goes down.

One of the most sobering experiences of my life last year was sitting down and writing out exactly what I wanted. At that time they had said 6-9 months so it needed doing, they said maybe I would get to the summer. Luckily things responded better than expected.
It’s still in a sealed envelope in the safe, I won’t be changing it and don’t want to do it again. Not a fun thing to do.

Somerset Maugham was advised by his accountant to hand over his estate to his daughter, in the hope that she could swerve death duties should he live at least a further 7 years. Maugham looked him in the eye, and said "I have seen King Lear, you know".

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and contributions on your Lockdown Island Records.
I am reminded of a recent documentary on the life of Earl Mountbatten.
He spent a very long time planning his own funeral in the most minute detail.
As befits a grandiose narcissist wanting to be hailed to the last, it is a shame that he was not able to watch it!
It went so well.
Please keep your Lockdown Island Records coming, preferably before you are shipwrecked.
