Hi, When I first bought my 1997 Plus 8 in August, the tickover was very erratic and would quite often just cut out. Sometimes hunting or over revving first. I changed the stepper motor, HT leads and distributor cap, and Matt at Lifes Motors tried a different MAF sensor and ECU that he had on the shelf. Nothing seemed to make much difference until we changed the temperature sensor and Lambda sensors. Coincidentally, I fitted Librands manifolds this week and was thankful for the new Lambda sensors. Now, when started, it appears to tick over steadily for a minute or two, then it is like the engine has been switched off, it just cuts out. I have checked all the hoses for air leaks, I have tried it without the air filter and I have scrupulously checked the new Magnecor HT leads to make sure they are correctly fitted and not touching each other.
I would be grateful for any ideas on where I can go with this now.
Many thanks, Phil

I should say that the injectors have been recently serviced and that normal driving is perfect. It is only when left to tick over that the stalling etc occurs.

Fuel pressure...? Think the GoMoG webmaster had a pressure gauge permanently in his fuel circuit to monitor pump and pressure regulator operation... For sure fuel issues are usually at the other end of the scale. Other than that perhaps the maf drops out of range range at low airflow due to ...?
I know nothing of EFI but thought you could connect up to a diagnostic unit that would store fault codes and provide live values to check all the prefireal devices.... I will happily stick with carbs for now. Hope someone comes up with an answer for you soon...
Good luck..

Is it an ECU that logs fault codes ?

I'm pretty sure I remember Lifes Motors saying it isn't.

There’s an odd thing with the librands that pass under the sump. You need to also swap the wiring looms to the lambda sensors from side to side.
Apparently confuses the ecu no end if you don’t.

Thanks, but I followed Librands instructions and fitting them didn't change the stalling situation at all.

Apparently confuses the ecu no end if you don’t. That’s the very thing that happened to a friend. Ended up with several trips to a garage, bits replaced with no improvement and it turned out to be lambda sensors needed swapping over from side to side. Forgive me but are you sure the Librands instructions are correct and have been interpreted correctly??

On my 94 +8 I had the issue of the engine stalling when the vehicle came to a stop, fault code 48 showed on the ECU LED readout which is mainly the Stepper Motor sticking or incorrect base idle speed adjustment and possible throttle butterfly adjustment. After replacing Stepper Motor the problem persisted, I also checked the butterfly adjustment and in the end established it was a poor earth on the road speed sensor. Rough running can be attributed to fuel or ignition issues, do you know what code is being shown?
