Maybe worth sending a PM to Adrian (AJSki2fly).
Though no longer a Morgan owner, he used to own a similar age +8 and (from memory) had a similar issue.
My recollection is that it was diagnosed with the help of a lot of tinkering and a rolling road at a local specialist garage.
However the fix was relatively simple.

Adrian is quite an expert on on most things to do with engines, so may be able to help.

I experienced two sets of similar issues with my '93 Plus 8 (Hotwire), and well recall the frustration you are suffering.
My first problem was from an Ignition Amplifier on the way out. This is a small box usually attached to the side of the distributor, and is easy to source and replace. It doesn't like the heat apparently, so some cars may have the remote Lucas version mounted nearby. Changing this component solved my cutting out at idle .
Second problem came some years later, with "kangaroo" near-cutting-out when running, that would then right itself for some miles. I changed everything I and others could think of, with no improvement. Solution was careful inspection of the tired low-tension leads around the distributor, followed by judicious trimming and soldering to make better connections.
Neither suggestion may work for you, but I wish you luck.

As I noted above my problem with stalling when coming to a stop was the road speed sensor not having a good earth.

Many thanks for that. I have not been able to locate the road speed sensor yet. I don’t seem to have a mechanical speedo cable.
I need to do a bit of research.

can you get a camera (phone) to get a pic of the rear of the speedo? You'd know for certain if you had a cable or not then. Mine is a 94, 3.9 EFi and it certainly has a cable driven speedo.

If you do have a cable driven speedo (which is most likely) then the Road Speed Sensor is probably mounted on the inside of the bulk head cut out where the transmission leaves the engine bay, it's a really fiddly position and is hidden from view. Locate where the clutch slave cylinder is mounted on top of the transmission and feel just behind it on the bulkhead side and you might be able to find the small square box with the speedo cable going in and cable coming out to the speedometer. The way I got to fix mine was by removing the transmission cover in the cabin.

I’ve taken a photo of the back of the speedo but I don’t know how to put it on here.
There is no cable, just wires. About five.
