With the damper blades - check that there is no lateral movement between the guides on the chassis side. Only in and out is required. Slackenning the bolts on the plates for the shims on the chassis rail allows the shims to be adjusted to just allow the blades to move in and out with no lateral play.. Then grease the blades. As a future upgrade when my kingpins need replacing i will install bearings and then be able to remove the damper blades.

I discussed the front end noises with the shop that I that performs my routine maintenance this week. He discovered that the front end assembly, especially the struts, all had the nuts tight but only just. At least one of the struts was held with fittings that could easily be broken loose with a 1/4" drive ratchet, perhaps 10 or 15 psi torque. After tightening everything, no more front end noises.
