Never seen a propshaft split like that. Would take it to a specialist and have a new one built.i had one built locally when I was restoring a flat rad ,surprised how cheap it was.

Ouch. That does look like a failed seam. Good luck.

With that factory history Andrew it might be worth a PM to asbojohn at this place as I believe he was the first owner and a very helpful chap who gets his cars serviced at the factory and could well know the full story.

If you wish to experiment to see if it’s prop shaft or wheels, you could try attaching a jubilee clip around the propshaft up where the split is. The screw part of the jubilee clip will act as an eccentric weight. You could then drive it to see if any improvement with a variety of clip positions around the shaft. If you find an improvement then it points to the prop.

Deejay, unfortunatley I'm not a hand's on person with cars so at moment reading with interest othe TM posts and waiting on a Price from Williams for a new propshaft (suspect with Morgan this may not even be a BMW oem part).
Cheers

Andrew. If you plant the loud peddle the back of the aero will pull to the left and spin the wheels in first second and third so at least you found the problem before something serious happened. I hope once you get the service done you get to enjoy the car for what it is. Em

Shame the MOT Man didn't spot this, the test was only done days before purchase, although I don't think it comes
under the MOT inspection.

With having the 2 brand new tyres fitted to the rear only a week before the sale i assumed it might be balance of wheels
I will show pictures to a Propshaft refurbished here and see if it is reparable.

I don't normally frequent this part of the forum but I've just tripped over this thread.

I wonder how long you've had this car because that split looks to me as something that started a while back and is now propagating quite badly.

I used to work in the prop shaft industry (many years ago) and I can tell you that shaft is not safe to drive.

Whatever you do, don't spin up the shaft to any significant RPM and only put the minimum torque you can use to get it on a transporter.

And don't weld up the crack. It either needs a new tube fitting of a complete new prop shaft.

I could even suggest that the car might have been sold to you in an unsafe condition. What about contacting the seller for a friendly chat.
