Hello everyone! I would like to have your opinion about the order of “things”.

My 2020 M3W is a Euro4 (with the Euro3 appearance kit) with the S&S Stealth Air Intake kit and its chromed Muscle Cover as only mechanical upgrade.

Here below is my “upgrades’ wish list”, in my priority order as per my today's knowledge and honest opinion. As many of these upgrades are expensive, so I can't do them all at once, I would like to have your opinion on each one, and what would be your priority order according to your experience / opinion with such upgrades. If I’m missing any important super nice upgrade, please add it to the list!

1- Phil Bleazey Centa drive upgrade.
Not only everyone with it says the 3-Wheeler runs much better but it has the obvious advantage to allow the change of the roller without the hell of removing the engine.

2- G56 exhausts.
I would like exhausts to let my engine breathe better, but without a noise increase. Sorry for the “loud exhausts lovers” but I want something not louder than the standard exhausts, and G56 seem to be the right choice.

3- Olhins shock absorbers (both front and back).
I guess the 3-Wheeler should handle much better. Does it really make a huge difference, or is it just a “slightly better” handling?

4- Upgraded 569 cams.
Considering I won’t change my locked ECU, is it really worthy?

5- Empire steering kit for better handling.
But only if it really makes a difference in a new 2020 car. Many say it doesn’t make a difference anymore in the latest 3-Wheelers… what do you think?

6- Phil Bleazey’s NVH replacement kit for a better bevel box support.
I put this one last of the list, as my NVH doesn’t bother me with strange sounds and “bangs” (not yet at least).

Let me know your opinion! cheers

Hi Marmota, If your BB is not banging, don`t go for the full upgrade. Just get the BB support. Phil will advise you better.

For a better sounding and free flowing exhaust, have you drilled out the baffles?
How about this?
This chap lives in Sweden, i chatted with him a few weeks back on Facebook.
He said he drilled out the baffles, cut the or ground the end off and fitted down turned tips.
He Said i gives a deeper sound but not too loud.
His neighbours like it. [Linked Image]

Empire kit, it works really well, but if you have no problems the steering you probably won`t need it.
The money you save buy not fitting the Empire kit, put it towards the 569 cams, they do make a difference.

Engine mapping, EU 1000 seems a lot when the standard ECU will cope with stage 2 upgrades.

Ohlins, EU 2000 wow, they are good, very good even, but there some just as good for half the price out there

I can only chime in on what would be on my list

1: centa drive upgrade.... ON MY LIST for next year. I already have over 10,000 miles

2: I have already lost way too much hearing.... no change

3: olhins... a lot of $$, but maybe I just am unaware of how much better he handling could be.... but if you view my you-tube it took the dragon well

4: upgraded cams.... from what I can see they just help with the start up by lowering the compression

5: steering... Once again doubt as I think it helped the early cars with the bump steer issues

6: bevel box... I have only heard the clunk a couple of times...

7: fur lined flight jacket.... got that for Christmas

Hi Marmota
My understanding is that Phils NVH replacement kit needs to be fitted before or at the same time as the Centa upgrade. With the long trips you will be doing I would do the Bleazey mods first, then the G56 followed by the Olins, not sure about the other mods though.

Javier - I've been looking at a similar list, here's my thoughts:

1. Phil's Centa Drive - figure i'll get this done at about 10K miles, which seems to be the safe life expectancy of the current rubber rollers. I might try Phil's suggestion of getting silicone grease on them before then.

2. G56 exhausts - I have a set sitting in my garage, will fit these over the Christmas break and share my thoughts.

3. Ohlins shocks - seem to be eye-wateringly expensive to me. I would certainly be interested to hear what the state-of-the-art lower cost alternatives are.

4. Upgraded cams - will try the exhaust first. I'm not unhappy with the power as it is, and I feel more comfortable keeping the engine stock as S&S aren't making them any more.

5. Empire kit. No thanks. By all accounts these make the biggest difference on the pre comfort-kit cars, and there are stories of them breaking.

6. Phil's bevel box kit is also in my future.

I am also considering Emil's various kits, better oil cooling seems a good idea to me in a hot climate. You might look into these.

My view is that all the upgrades you have listed are worth doing and almost in the order you have listed them, particularly with your planned longer touring in mind.

Phils Centa mods are certainly worth doing as you are planning some longer trips, a broken Centa will finish your trip. It also smooths the transmission.

I would do the G56 exhaust first and then see if you feel the cost of 569 cams and the unlocked ECU (that may be getting difficult to obtain) is worth it. The car will go and drive much better with the new exhaust and filter. The standard ECU will adapt with Stage 1 parts fitted but not the 569 cams.

The Ohlins get good reports but there are alternatives that are cheaper and (almost) as good. The ATR's are certainly good and about half the price. The adjustable Spax are a noticeable improvement over standard. With all the adjustable shocks you can adjust the rear end ride hight for load carrying, a consideration for touring.

The Empire steering kit is an improvement but not dramatic. I have it but I got it when there was no Comfort Kit available and bump steer was the thing. If my car had been like a 2020 car for it's steering, I would probably have been satisfied.

Phils BB mount is good and solves all the NVH issues but several M3W's I have driven with the NVH kit drive and ride very well, some not so well for some reason. If your car is one of the better riding NVH kit cars, leave it as it is.

1. I would do this once the mileage got high enough to make you nervous.

2. Good choice if you can find a proper way to stabilize them on their mounts since they are larger and probably more weight.

3. Any shock that stops the jarring of the OEM shocks. My Ohlins work great, expensive, yes. They have a dealer in the USA, maybe made here, so purchase was easy. In Europe there might be good alternatives.

4. I changed the cam and it works well without the unlocked ECU. I might get more power with it unlocked but it works well as it but shows a code light of "reached max limits", but I don't need more power. It runs soooo smoothly now. Probably the way the engine was designed and then detuned with the OEM cams for the EU Pollution spec.

5. My 2019 steering is just fine; my only gripe is that it takes forever to turn it around, as a fellow MOG owner, "the 17 point turn".

6. Buy is to do once you start hearing the clunk coming out of the differential (BB) area. I heard the clunk a few time and wondered what it was until I read the notes on the NVH. The kit is easy to install and saves weight. It also makes the clutch feel more like a regular clutch and not a device hooked up to a pogo stick.

Just ordered the NVH replacement kit from Phil. That and Emil's bevel box filling kit going on with the next oil change

Ah come on, and miss the fun of trying to squirt the oil up hill into a place you cannot reach

The remote fill is a joy since nothing is running everywhere it is not supposed to be.
