Hi Chris

I use exactly the same methods as George, unfortunately my roof is 9 meters from ridge to gutter so requires two roof Ladders connected together. Wire brush and scraper is the best method for cleaning, a power washer although quicker only serves to create a rough surface for moss and lichen to adhere to in the future. You also need to remove the downpipes to prevent drain blocking.

A lightweight tower scaffold is ideal for gutter cleaning, especially if you're not confident on a ladder.

When I do get my roof cleaned I'm going to research spraying a clear tile sealer which is supposed to help prevent growth and staining but I've heard mixed reports on its effectiveness.

After 5 years of Morgan ownership where my Plus 4 remained as it was the day it left the factory, I've started easing myself into the world of modifications. This winter it's to change the wipers to ones that work (just completed) and have my tonneau cover converted to 3 zip (booked in at Allon Whites in February).
Now I've got the bug who knows what next winter will bring!

My neighbours across the road had theirs cleaned and then sealed something like 8 years ago. Still moss free now. Don't know whether they know what the sealer was though.

Thanks Graham, that's encouraging.👍

Gordon, the roofers who were originally tasked to take on my roof spoke of a treatment applied with a watering can that they would apply when the moss had been removed and guarantee the roof to be moss free for four years...! Whether that chemical might have been Hypochlorite or not I have no idea.

Given the amount of effort involved in the moss removal I did think that some sort of sealer would be beneficial for sure. I have also seen roofs painted, though whither the paint has any direct chemical qualities relative to algae or moss prevention.. I have no idea.. but if Graham1s neighbours have enjoyed 8 moss free years so far ...hmm..?

Fox T, Modifying a Morgan muchly was/is ever the creed of the Morganeer as it seems now to be with many classics where original old vehicles are being converted to restomods to incorporate a tad more bling and comfort that may more suit our evolving expectations, and to compensate for aspects of the ageing process, perhaps more ours than that of the Morgan or whichever classic might be subjected to the processes... smile

My Morgan was modified prior to my ownership though most of the mods were relative to preservation of it`s condition, though if you may have read of my latest SS exhaust parts acquisition, and replacement mirrors, it seems I value a bit of bling too...I suspect it is ever ideal to set some targets to keep us motivated to be doing something... anything...? smile

Thanks George, Painting is not an option for me as the tiles are old English bold roll and not a solid colour, they have a random red/black finish. Painting looks awful I think. A clear sealer would be acceptable as long as no harm is done to myself or the environment.

Thanks George and Gordon, I have been thinking of installing anchors on the roof and a harness system, so if I fall I don't fall totally off and on the ground. My roof doesn't need moss cleaned off it but the paint has basically come off and the metal roof is white in a lot of patches so needs repainting. That will be a big job for sometime.

Interestingly, up in the same sort of climate as George and Gordon my roof has no moss after 20+ years .... it's a slate roof, copper nailed and with a traditional lead ridge .... I think it's the last one that does the trick .... when it rains it bleeds tiny amounts from the ridge which keeps the roof clear. The smoothness of the slate compared to tile probably helps as well.

Thanks for sharing your thinking guys. Nice tiles Gordon, though I am pleased mine seem to be less difficult to clean..

K, yup, have heard it said that Zinc ridge inhibits algae growth also. Some claim that slightly more expensive copper may perform a similar task.... Cost may be why chemicals could be the popular choice, though what potential threat they place on sewage treatment farms I can only guess.
