I am going to change the oil on my 2015 car and wonder whether I can get an oil hose drain kit here in the U.K. ?
I know that Custom Morgan in the States supply them, anyone here?

Also,has anyone ever replaced the oil hoses with made up hydraulic type hoses with threaded union couplings ? I can see that the oil tank end would be a problem, but male/ male adaptors in the engine block would seem more secure than the simple hose clips used. The thought of an oil hose just held on with hose clips seems a little insecure to me................

There is an easy to fit oil tank drain valve from a company called Quick Valve, see page 3 of the Alternative Parts List on a sticky at the start of this forum threads. It makes it easier to drain the tank and then you just need to remove the "dry" sump plug to drain the final small amount of oil. Sump seal details are also on the list.

As for the AN type fittings for hoses, I have seen some done but it is a lot of trouble for not much return, there doesn't seem to be a problem with oil hoses coming off. As the oil hoses do chaff and have been known to wear through, replacing them with braided hoses is worthwhile IMHO. Merlin Motor Sport do some good quality hoses with a suitable temperature rate. I have details if you require them.

I've looked at using AN type adaptors at the engine end, but S&S specifies 1/2" hose for the oil feed and return, and there is not suitable space to install -8 (1/2") fittings, so you are left using -6 fittings (3/8") with it's resultant 44% reduction in flow area, which probably is not a good idea. Additionally, AN fittings are typically made of aluminum with a greater wall thickness than the thin wall steel fittings MMC used on the engine, so flow potential is further reduced.

Steel braided hoses need to be given proper consideration to firmly attaching them when routing, as they can act like a file if left to chaff against other parts. So the hose survives, but other parts are destroyed. One of my Lotus Elans had an oil cooler when I purchased it that had braided hose running forward to the cooler, just laying across the steering rack. I don't know how long it took, but when I removed the cooler and lines, the top of the rack tube was worn clean through by one of the lines.

It seems that changing the fittings to AN type would be more trouble than it is worth so will work on the '' ain't broke don't fix it''principle..............

I use the valve at the drain tank and it works fairly well. You could simply get a three way brass fitting and put two 1/2 inch nipples for the two hose connectors and have a screw out plug in the low point of the oil feed hose. It would mean being able to get the front end up high enough to easily get under the screw out the plug. In essence that is what Emil's kit has done

Agreed that braided hoses need to be correctly "P" clipped, I got a packet of 20 P clips when I did my hoses and used most of them. As an ex-aircraft engineer I certainly know what you mean. I was surprised to find a couple of bad chaffs in the old rubber hoses down near the gearbox RH bellhousing, out of sight.......

yes, I recall finding a "dent" where one of my hoses had rubbed. When I added the under the bonnet cooler, there was the possibility of the return house rubbing where it came into the bonnet area. I just bought a larger diameter clear hose and slide the oil hose through that and the thick clear hose lays on the metal

Here is 3600 miles of vibration on the factory routing of the oil line running from the tank bottom to feed the engine.

LightSpeed is that a new Avon tyre it does not look like its done 3600 miles, still with moulding pips?
