Hi Everyone
Any ideas why my 1997 4/4 speedo is not showing the mileage or trip figures, the speedo has power and is showing the actual speed I am doing, but no mileage.

If you have the VDO LCD readout this a well known error there is a capacitor on the PCB that can be changed but I find mine cures itself when the dryer warmer weather appears so I leave it alone, it's a Morgan character feature snowlaugh

I think there is a thing on Gomog.com about it.

I have a good trust arrangement with the garage and it's about 15 miles from my home and has normally dried out by then, I did unscrew the speedo and dry it out in the boiler cupboard the first MOT though but the tech said don't worry about it next time.

Mine's the same. Comes and goes a bit but when it does come on it has the correct mileage so I think it's just a temperamental LCD display.

Same experience for my - as Ivormog says, the mileage is still recorded when you use the car, so is accurate when the LCD comes back on.

I now have 2 small electric ‘greenhouse’ heaters that I have from late-Autumn through to late-Spring: one of them is positioned just under the dashboard on top of the gearbox housing to keep everything dry (the 2nd one is on the garage floor under the engine👌).

These are plugged into the extension lead that is in place all year-round for the battery conditioner, so that I know they’re on when they should be.

When I took mine for MOT it was blank on the way there - I thought “uh oh, that’ll be a problem”. Anyway as you know it’s always best to get it well warmed up woohoo so I did. Later they called to say it had passed so I went to pick it up and there on the document was the mileage. When I got in the car the mileage was showing so it must’ve just been teasing.
It does happen on and off through the winter tho. Just part of its character drive

I have had the same. I did read somewhere that it was due to moisture getting in to the display board in the speedo. It cleared up in the spring. If you go out driving in the winter put the heater on full blast!

I am currently trying to reduce the moisture content of the cockpit and see if that stops the numbers disappearing.

I have left the hood up but not tensioned, and the doors and windows shut. In the drivers footwell I have left a large plastic cake box holding a kilo of silica gel granules. By weighing the silica before and after regenerating in the oven I have extracted over 150ml of water so far this year.

Not having this new-fangled electrickery in my car I don't know how stuff is laid out ..... but if the pcb is accessible then you can get a 'tropicalising' varnish for pcbs ... painted on over everything to keep humidity at bay.
