I agree totally John. You would have thunk that if perpetrating a fraud is so easy to carry out using email, that those v clever internet rozzer people (whoever “they” are) would have some sort of system to easily track them back to the originator and close them down sharpish... I know nothing of electronic wizardry so don’t understand these matters but it does sadden me that particularly the old/vulnerable who are least able to afford the loss are the ones who pay heaviest price

We have had one of those.
Ignored it, as we ignore requests for money from almost everyone.

The reason they are not shut down is that they originate in countries that care not about hosting organised crime... indeed in some countries the Government could be taking a cut.

Here is a one I received this morning:-

Im Mrs.Lea Edem, I work with one of the leading banks here in Lome, the capital, I sent mail earlier without an answer. I have an important business that I want to discuss with you. I want to move a substantial amount of money that belonged to our client who died since 2010 leaving nobody to claim his deposit. As his personal account manager, our bank mandated me to look for his relatives to claim the money but I have not been able to locate his relatives. Now, I want us to make a deal and transfer this money within days and share at an equal ratio at the end.

Not received it, yet!

I hope I don't get it as I generally don't understand these things anyway so I tend to ignore or dismiss everything. I will probably fail to claim my £1 million premium bond win one day!!!

The spelling errors in many Pistonheads posts suggests there are large numbers out there who might well suckcrumb, oops succumb to the idiots theory. It can be hilarious sometimes.
The spam folder in my emails tends to fill up regularly. A quick scan for possible genuine emails and then empty without reading them is a regular task. I have queried a few with the genuine originating company/organisation that sneaked through.
We do get very occasional phone calls but letting them go to voicemail and adding them to the blocked number list is working.

very few spam emails in my Google Mail box, occasionally in outlook, but the computer is a Mac and I run malwarebytes: are PCs more susceptible?

Do you know, that's something I have never even thought of doing. I tend to forget about the spam, I am going to have a long afternoon checking, but not opening, them. Thank you for the memory jog.
