Hi
Try as I might I can't seem to upload pictures here so I'll try to explain.
My Morgan came with a mild steel four branch manifold, the pipework being circular (round) rather than the kidney shape of the ports. As it was mild steel it rotted away so I ordered the stainless (identical shape) one from Morgan through my local dealer. It arrived and was identical, however the gasket was in the shape of the kidney ports and therefore completely unsuitable. After contacting other dealerships I find the gasket is no longer available. Does anyone have experience of this and is there a solution other than the obvious "make your own'. Due to the very tight tolerance around the edges this has been a suck it and see approach which I'm not happy with.
Thanks

If it's a Ford engine just try a Ford dealer, if it's a Rover etc search for spares for the engine make.

Not my area of knowledge, but can Librands help?

When I did my engine conversion I thought I was going to have a similar problem but being a Ford Zetec I found several off the shelf solutions.

I'm guessing you have an M16 Rover engine so no idea how to solve that off the shelf.

However, as part of my research I did stumble across these people in Cornwall.

Might be worth giving them a call.

Malachy,

When I needed a new manifold gasket for my 89 m16 P4,I obtained it through Phil at Brands Hatch Morgans. Techniques also had one.

I had the whole thing replaced this year on my 1990 4/4 4-seater 1600 CVH, this manifold was from Librands, replacing the old cast one for S/S. I think Librands should have it for a Plus 4 too!

Looking at the photos now I have to say that the manifold is not a very good fit to the exhaust ports and the gasket sealing area at the top and bottom of the ports is not very wide.

If you look at the Librands manifold closely you will see that the pipes have been flattened at the port end to more accurately follow the port shape.

And Librands supply a suitable gasket which, knowing Rob Wells, will have been tried and tested.

I might be tempted to return the manifold you bought on the grounds that they cannot supply the correct gasket and then go for the Librands manifold and gasket set.

Librands M16 exhaust manifold

Double check that the current version does have the flattened tube design.

That big a disparity of shape could also affect the return pulse in the exhaust system and I would suspect the Librands system will be more efficient.
