Hi, OP here
If you look in this month's MogMag you will see the results of my research into a headlight upgrade.
My copy has not arrived yet, but I am assured my car is featured with the new lights fitted.
I chose them because they are totally legal, work much better. than the OEMs and in my opinion, look in keeping with the Morgan look.
I realise the last point is highly subjective.

Did you go for the S-V-C option you provided the link to earlier in the thread ?

I believe they are by Lux and are very similar to the ones I linked to but with a black sidelight bar instead of silver.
My car is block black with a black rad grill so the black. bar works well (I think) but a more traditional look would be achieved with the silver option.
Got them through Cain at Wolf Performance who also fitted them for me. I think he is now offering a supply and fit service for these particular headlights (black or silver) as he was impressed with both quality and looks when fitted.

If that is the Rumblings From The Shed item then yes it appears in the January edition. The article is quite generic though, it doesn't actually specify which option is being featured.

The Products section in the same mag features the old Lucas style PL700 from Better Car Lighting which I'm seriously considering.

The Lux ones are sealed units with all the advantages and disadvantages that brings. No bulb changing for me.
The Lucas ones are very "Morgan" though and prices are not that far apart (Lux a bit more expensive).

Problem with sealed units is you're stuffed if one goes pop on a long European tour, can't see the point in sealed units when there's lots of good H4 LED bulbs out there

Well there's plenty of new cars now with dedicated LED lights Jon, essentially sealed units. Remember the far greater longevity of LED units as well whether sealed units or bulb replacements. The only LED I can recall having failed was the clock illumination on my Roadster, oh and a mains one that overheated but probably down to close fitting shade.

the expensive version of most modern headlight bulbs last about 2-4 years IME, sometimes less. 30,000 hours (ave) for a good quality led will see me, my kids and my grandkids out - I hope! Should be fit and forget, or at least that was the plan.

Me too. My bulbs will certainly see me out.

I have only driven a Morgan at night once in the years I have owned them!!

Usually tucked up with a good meal and a glass of wine in the summer months, well before it gets dark.
