As some will know I had a stroke in October where I lost about half my peripheral vision- and, therefore, my licence. I am allowed to retake a test after 12 months but need to train my eyes to continually scan to the left. The Occupational Therapists have agreed that a good driving/ race simulator might help?.
The question is; does anybody know what they are doing around this type of kit? There seems to be a lot of choice from a bolt on steering wheel attached to your desk at one end, up to 3D Hydraulic Race rigs the other?
I need to get back into my Speedster. Anything I can do to make that happen -I will do. Its hard to explain what a privilege driving is- until its taken away ( especially when we all have the additional good luck to drive a Morgan )

Hi JB62,
I’m an ophthalmologist in the States. I’m sorry this has happened to you. Sounds like you’ve lost the entire left visual field both eyes. This is called a left homonymous hemianopsia. This means you can’t see anything to the left until the object gets directly in front of you. What you need to be vigilant about is watching for people to the left down the road who could potentially run out into the road, especially a child or intersections where a car could pull out from the left or a car that pulls up along side on the left. Constant situational awareness by looking in your rear view mirror and straight ahead down the road is heightened as well as constantly looking to the left so your remaining visual field on the right can see objects on your left.
I wish you the best and hope you can return to your wonderful Speedster as soon as possible.
Warm Regards.

JB if you need a fancy PC and some hardware to run it then I would be more than happy to help. That's fancy as in horse power it does not have to look like a lightshow gone nuts. Question, as it is your peripheral vision then I would recommend a set of three monitors so you can have a broad view or you can buy one of the big fancy curved screens but these cost a lot. There are two good vendors for this sort of kit (that I have experience of, there are more) scan.co.uk and overclockers.co.uk If you are going then go large! https://www.overclockers.co.uk/mwe-...tation-chair-carbon-black-gc-001-mw.htmlOr maybe something that does not require formal SWMBO approval https://www.overclockers.co.uk/play...ng-simulator-gaming-chair-gc-001-pa.html
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

The latest 3D "goggles" are so good this might be a more compact way of exercising your left vision. better than 3 monitors at least space-wise. You will still need a computer and a driving set up, but that's all. Hewlett Packard make the best value for money 3D headset atm @ about £600 Just a thought and good luck!

What will help a lot is to walk on a side walk along the right side of a road in the real world and pay attention to your left so you can better adapt to your new situation. Practice frequently looking to the left and turning your head to the left. I think this will benefit you more than looking at a monitor unless the monitor significantly wraps around you to the left.

I’m trying to brainstorm for you JB62.
It’s all about constantly being aware of what’s going on to your left. When you’re a passenger in the front seat of a car, pretend you are driving, and do what you need to do to know what is constantly going on to the left.
Barry M mentioned 3D goggles. I assume that’s what we call virtual reality goggles. There are driving virtual reality programs with cars passing around you like on a race track that might give you a sense of driving in the real world. When you turn your head to the left with the goggles on you can see to your left just like you would if you were really driving a car. I’ve never looked through them though so I can’t say with any authority about that, but I think virtual reality would be better and less expensive than large wrap around 2D panel monitors.
Good luck.

When England won the wold cup on 2003, Clive Woodward had used lots of eye training coaches to improve the squads abilities. One of those coaches has develoed a system called EyeGymMight be useful, might not.

Many thanks for suggestions.
Sportster- you are correct in the diagnosis of HH and thank you for the therapy ideas.
Just need to work on this now so that maybe later in the year I can crank up the V8 again.
Checking Eyegym now. Thanks.

JB62, I wish you a speedy improvement of your vision and much strength for the training! A question that interests me as a layman, also to Sportster. How much of this compensatory training is head movement and how much is eye movement? I wonder if I can train head movement if 3 D googles move along equally? Or I have a wrong idea about how these goggles work?
