Pure bling and a threat to paintwork. Your bonnet will not fly up if fastened correctly. This may not have been the case 70 years ago however. Agree with your first comment but my one month old car did have the drivers side bonnet lift whilst overtaking on a breezy M6. Amazed no damage as it appeared to just levitate until I had chance to pull over. Door checkstrap pin bent shortly after though when I came to rest on hard shoulder and had the door ripped out of my hand by gusts from passing trucks - twice! KH adjusted front bonnet lock and replaced pin under warranty - no trouble since

A good application of hard wax will protect the paint from the sheepskin and a pad of neoprene under the buckle helps

Miligoon. I agree with you, I fitted a second hand bonnet belt on my then new plus 4 we did over 2ok in it and there were no scratches when we sold it ,but every time i washed the car I used comfort fabric softner on the sheepskin . It's the dust and grime does the damage not the belt........Em

If your worried about scratches, you could always apply PPF under the belt like I have done here ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/01/31/AEB278B1-F60A-4D00-A3DB-7EC8D17153AB.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/01/31/06503C0E-97E9-43E8-A161-40FF4127C45F.jpg)

Anyone fitted a bonnet belt on their Aero never been one to run with the sheep, I think I need a tan bonnet belt { lockdown fever}........Em Mine came with the belt fitted. It has damaged the paintwork - but the damage is all under the belt and can't be seen. Having seen the bonnet lift in my Roadster at speed, despite it being correctly installed and locked down, I wouldn't drive without one.

I thought bonnet straps originated because there had/has to be a secondary method of locking the bonnet shut in racing. The idea was that if you had a crash (which is still possible even in everyday driving) then you didnt get decapitated by a detached bonnet. Well thats what I tell people who ask anyway. I havent had a scratched paintwork problem even without PPF. Maybe my car is too clean and I dont get dirt under the bonnet strap.
