Anyone fitted a bonnet belt on their Aero never been one to run with the sheep, I think I need a tan bonnet belt { lockdown fever}........Em

That hideously modified Aero that’s been doing the rounds had one. You could go the whole hog and complete all the mods

Pure bling and a threat to paintwork. Your bonnet will not fly up if fastened correctly. This may not have been the case 70 years ago however.

Gone past the threat to bodywork stage I quite like the ones fitted to the front of the cowl on the XK120s.......Em

I've often wondered how secure the bonnet is, particularly at speed. I did hear tell of someone losing a S1 bonnet at speed, a year or so back. Not sure of the damage caused.

ahem I can also confirm that your bonnet will not fly up if *not* fastened correctly... did it once by accident. eek.

Agreed, I collected it from a service once and got home to find the drivers side was not fastened. I had done about 90 miles per hour, sorry 90 miles home.

I can confirm that the whole bonnet can lift up like a bat flying and sail over 2 following Rolls Royce Cullinan's and land behind them :-)

However, it was secured on all 4 knobs. Cause was the bolts coming loose at the front cowl. Recommend you check them from time to time!

I had the right bonnet opening at 160 km/h on the autobahn last year. The front lock, which was not perfectly fitting (pre-owner obviously modified the the rest nose), seemed to be over-stressed by the air pressure - luckily, nothing happened, but the front lock needed to be exchanged. This happened after I de-installed the bonnet belt just several weeks before - as slight paintwork damages were visible.
I think when the locks are properly installed / adjusted (I had this done by a Morgan dealer) the bonnets are safe - since, I drove up to 190 km/h without having same problem again. But, if there is too much leeway/movement possible at the locks, the bonnet (which is definitely deformed at higher speeds, as aluminium is soft) might get the necessary millimeters to allow the lock to come off the rest nose - either get it repaired, or use the belt :-) ...

Get a piece of PPF applied where the strap rests. Damage to paintwork problem solved.
