I quite agree. It seems to me that the manufacturers are dominated by ICE thinking and feel they have to make their EVs as indistinguishable from traditional ICE cars as possible, including loading them up with all sorts of unnecessary tech.

I agree re the battery extras. Also from the point of view of weight. Have you ever tried to lift out an electric seat, not a one man job. I adjust mine once in a blue moon and we generally have the benefit of being rich enough to have sole (driving) use in our lucky society. One of the biggest target benefits for BEV must be weight reduction.

I notice on a number of the videos the discussion of kW/Miles or the amount of the battery watts you burn to get the car a mile down the road. Some interesting numbers from what I would consider similar priced and sized vehicles. The dual speed rear axle in the Tesla looks like it was a smart move as they have some of the most frugal numbers.

Even when a driving position needs to be regularly adjusted, the whole electric memory business seems such a heavy and complex solution to what is essentially a simple problem. Would it not be more efficient to just have some adjustable mechanical stops that can be used? Jane and I both drive the Fiat, and it seems that the seat always needs adjusting whenever I get in it, but it's only a case of sliding it back a bit (or her sliding it forward). Hardly an onerous task, but if there was a means of setting the limit fore and aft it would be made even easier as you could just bang it from one end to the other of its travel.

Back in the late 2000s we had a Mercedes, with 2 remote key fobs.
Nothing special there, that is normal.
But they were different: they were personal. My key fob adjusted the seat, mirrors, radio and a few other things to my settings. Caroline's did the same.
We replaced the car in 2011 with a new Mercedes.
It didn't have this feature. It had many less useful ones, but not the one that made life so easy.
Since then I've not seen this feature on any car I've looked at.
WHY??
If it was possible then, pre-canbus, pre sat nav, etc, why isn't it possible now?

Our MINI Clubman has this - it resets audio and aircon settings to each keys preference. No electric seats in her car though.

Peter, I don't know about other Beemers but my i3 had two fobs, bespoke to each user, for settings as you describe

I'll bet the CX Morgans don't have this....

All my previous big Mercs have done this but then I always buy a car disgustingly over-specd by the previous buyer.

I think you'll find most cars have electric seats. Perhaps most people are lazy, incompetent idiots?

The Tesla has, of course, got massive battery power - it's a battery vehicle. Adjusting the seat makes no difference to the range, nor does putting on the Sat Nav, aircon, wipers or heated seats.

Like Peter's previous Mercedes, the seat position, the side mirrors, A/C settings and other things are personalised to the phone that's opened the car. A very useful function if your wife or anyone else drives the car.
