Quite happy to leave the Soap Box for those who want it. Used to enjoy a good debate, and gained some great knowledge and alternative perspectives that helped challenge/strengthen my own thoughts and beliefs.

To be honest, it's been taken over by the pub bore, and his sarky sidekick. Like in real life, I've just decided not to visit the bar, and to stay in the lounge where the company is much more convivial. smile smile

Em and a few others would remember this: three things not to be talked about in a ship's bar - you've got two of them Ray! smile

If you want to see absolute and utter crap involving politics, law, Covid then go to Pistonheads!
I go there but avoid many topics due to the content and trolling. I do occasionally post there but it is less than it used to be and not in the highly charged topics.
Politics? A minefield for forums! Too many intransigents, deniers, extremists with blinkers and social media believers.
TM? A few instances of topics that have degenerated but mainly good natured. If I post a comment that is incorrect and get corrected then that is ok. I have yet to be the target of vitriol or abuse and doubt I would be. Corrected....yes. No problem!
If the place is not to your liking then go elsewhere. Avoid the contentious forums.

It used to be the rule in an Officers Mess that the subjects of women, politics, religion and work are excluded from conversation.
The origins go back to the times when a real argument could be settled by a dual, rather than walking away.
But I do feel that Politics and Religion should be restricted to the Soap Box!

Marmota ..... great way to deal with an unpopular topic .... give it a dose of 'thread drift on steroids' 😀

Did you know that Paul Bigsby, who invented and made the Bigsby guitar tremolo bridge, was also the foreman at, and designed many parts for, the Crocker Motorcycle Company in America .... nice little mash-up for those on here with an interest in guitars and motorcycles.

Must admit to being fond of a grilled sardine ..... have a strong memory from 45 years back sitting on a beach surrounded by olive groves eating sardines grilled over a campfire .... straight off the little one man boat of the Greek fisherman who's little house was the only habitation for miles .... pretty sure I saw a UFO that night but it might have been the smokes talking!! 😂
