I wanted the wider front frame, but that proved impossible. I wanted black wrapped wing beading and that was a fight. On the plus side, MMC were happy to fit alternative tyres, even though in the end it didn't work out due to lack of clearance. And there are a couple of flaws in the leather, one is a circular scar, the other is badly stretched leather on the drivers door cap. And the paintwork on the N/S bonnet shows a slight tide mark under the laqueur where the primer filler has sunk.

And the throttle response was stupidly hair trigger until the remap, and fuel economy was rubbish until the remap. BUT, nothing went wrong. Together that sounds like a nightmare and the overall experience could have been a bit better. I would do it again in an instant though. If they still made Series 1 Roadsters, I would find that hard to resist.

But the bottom line is that you expect some hitches along the way. That's how it is, unless you buy a pre built car with the bugs ironed out.

It's always been that way. A good few problems in first year, then reliable for a long time once sorted. I've had three new builds and two used ones. Used ones nicely sorted. New ones, trouble to start with.

Had that White Aero8 not been a Cat D and a nice dark colour except black I'd have had that in a heartbeat and kept the sound track I love. The others on the market are too bright a colour for our taste.

The lack of transparency on this product makes trying to buy a new car like wading through treacle doh they have managed to suck all the joy out of the experience already, and I keep reminding myself this is only the start of the journey..

Why not just hang on to the plus 8? It's the peak of the marque. The roadster was quicker (I replaced my plus 8 with a series one roadster) but didn't have the charachter or sound. It was a brilliant car but if I could only have one mog to keep forever it would be a 70's plus 8 . Sadly out of my price range now.

It's your first sentence that I am struggling with right now Dave.

Reading your picking list and knowing how you like things to be you really are in love and good on you for that, you probably have more patience than I do as I am finding my enthusiasm for acquiring a new Plus Four fading fast. I find that a bit sad after 17 years as every other Morgan I have had filled me with excitement, even the windscreen saga and bits dropping off and an oil leak on the new 4/4 Sport didn't put me off.

It never broke down in it's defense in 26,000mls and was fun

The two Plus 8's have run faultlessly, now if they still produced them I would take their hand off. But with only 35,500mls on mine perhaps I should just stick with the rumble that I know and love..

Nick w that is an option I mentioned earlier, time to take stock I think.

There may well be others I'm not an MSCC member but doubtless someone on there knows of others.

Having seen a few exploded batteries in a previous life I have learnt a lot about faulty charging systems grin2 From Knife cells through Plante up to the latest kit and they are all an accident waiting to happen.

Back on thread this is a very interesting statement from KH about the Plus Four pricing but mostly seats laugh2
So just the brakes to sort now..

Well cabin fever got to me today so I made a bid for freedom in the Plus 8 and before I realised what was happening 100 miles was done and dusted, and wonderful it was to hear that rumble once more after another 10 weeks of non running or charging.

I will confess to feeling really guilty sitting in the car she fires first pot up and there is me thinking about replacing her doh at hot idle of 750 oil pressure of 2 bar what’s not to like, still some serious thinking to do I think she is such a rewarding car to drive.
Roof up all the way as it was sleet and snow but it added to the 🤩

I want to speak only for myself, but maybe you can relate, Richard. Many here are in an age, between 60 and 75. We actually have our dream car. But it's the allure of the new. I don't think it's just about wanting the latest thing. But it's about still feeling part of the market and the vibrancy. We don't want to resign ourselves to the fact that even our current cars might outlive us. In younger years, it was always the other way around. There it was a normality that we would outlive our cars. I think it's a matter of savoring the thrill of the new acquisition once again. In the end, your Plus 8 was the more emotional car, but only perhaps, I don‘t know it exactly. A lot of pros and cons may be.
But fortunately everyone is free to decide what is more important. I am not saying this from an arrogant point of view. It can happen to me just as well that I want to experience the thrill of the new once again. And as I said weeks ago, you have all my full agreement for the new Plus Four. I meant this post more generally, what our motives are, why we want to change again.

You are spot on Graham, when you have spent most of your driving years with a V8 in the stable it’s a tough call and I think I’m beginning to realise it could be a wrong one for me and that is why I have been reluctant to jump in so far, I’m still in love and not ready for a young pretender just yet 🙂 is how I’m feeling right now which is a really good thing all things considered I think as I fell in love with the Plus 8 51 years ago.

Rich,

I agree with Graham and Heinz.. You have a great car.
What does a Plus 4 offer you that the Plus 8 doesn't?
If you want a bit more refinement, look for a Aero S4 Chassis Plus 8.
When this lockdown nonsense is over I'll happily pop over and you can try mine.

There is this...

For £84k, a LOT less than a new Plus 4 of comparable specification!
